4000 Ratings
Have been lurking on this site for over a decade and rated like 90% of the albums I've listened to. Used hitting 4000 ratings as a chance to compile a list of my top 100 albums. Let's see how this goes, went over by a few I think and is kind of struggle to figure out what should come off that far in aha. |
1 | | ISIS Panopticon
The GOAT for me. Fave band for about as long as I've been on the site. In the Absence of Truth is almost tied with this one. |
2 | | Boards of Canada Geogaddi
I progressively just got more into this band as I got older. Became obsessed. Listened to this album almost everyday during a really shitty Winter and it def made it more of a trip. |
3 | | Boilermaker In Wallace's Shadow
Heavily underrated/unknown Post-Hardcore/Emo masterpiece IMO. Sometimes you just click emotionally with an album and it sticks. Solid af vocals/bass playing too, RIP Terrin. |
4 | | Godflesh Post Self
Was between this and the debut. I will always be influenced by this band. Them being able to put out an album that has elements of all their eras and still pushes the sound forward, this deep into their career is fkn amazing. |
5 | | Duster Contemporary Movement
I got really into slowcore a few years back and revisited this album. Got heavily into their whole discog and many adjacent projects. Another album that just clicked. |
6 | | Ash Borer Ash Borer
One of the best USBM albums. Not many other bands combining elements of Post-Rock, retain that raw and grim feeling of old BM like Ash Borer do. |
7 | | Thursday War All the Time
Never thought nearing 30, I'd still be in love with a band I got into when I was like 12 aha. Their discog (except maybe the first album) hold up really fkn well. Great lyrics on this album. |
8 | | Maudlin of the Well Leaving Your Body Map
We all know this and Bath are masterpieces. This shit opened my mind up to so much music and possibilities of combining aspects of all the genres you like. |
9 | | Q and Not U No Kill No Beep Beep
Emo dance punk post-hardcore. Energy levels rise every time I put it on. |
10 | | Talk Talk Spirit of Eden
Proto Post-Rock classic. Their last three albums are all gorgeous. Another band I like more each passing year. Truly one of those bands that was actually ahead of their time. |
11 | | Fear Before The Always Open Mouth
Best post-hardcore album there is. Bought it when I was like 13 and enjoyed it, it has never stopped resonating emotionally. Some of the most forward thinking punk music ever recorded. Also if you own the CD take off the part holding the CD and you'll find the hidden lyric booklet, blew my mind when I was younger. |
12 | | Lil Ugly Mane Oblivion Access
One of the most significant modern musicians in my opinion. I got overly into his work. His willingness and success with experimentation is v inspiring. |
13 | | Sunny Day Real Estate How It Feels To Be Something On
The GOAT emo album for me. |
14 | | Dinosaur Jr. Bug
Could be a handful of their albums here. The most significant "Indie" band for me. Opened up my ears to many kinds of music. |
15 | | John Fahey Fare Forward Voyagers (Soldier's Choice)
Fell in love with his style and story a few years ago. I adore Ameican Primitivism now and Fahey is the godfather of the genre. This is prob his heaviest/darkest album. |
16 | | Jack Rose Kensington Blues
My second favourite of the finger picking style. The most soulful player behind Fahey. |
17 | | Meshuggah Catch Thirtythree
They have many great albums but this is their masterpiece. Dark, philosophical and has the dankest grooves. |
18 | | Bathory Blood Fire Death
Was obsessed with BM as young lad. Bathory essentially created the sound and has a few classics. This and Under the Sign are the ones I go back to most. |
19 | | Silencer (SWE) Death - Pierce Me
Some may laugh at this album. It's Gollum fronting a DSBM band. It's unhinged af and wonderfully written. |
20 | | Today Is the Day Temple of the Morning Star
Hard to pick my favourite of Austin's. His perseverance and striking originality/insanity in the early days is admirable. |
21 | | The Blood Brothers Young Machetes
Used to get chirped for listening to this in high school. I still adore this album and it has their best lyrics. |
22 | | Tortoise TNT
Post-Rock GOAT |
23 | | diSEMBOWELMENT Transcendence into the Peripheral
Truly original and influential album. The eerie clean guitars between all that dank DM still sounds fresh. |
24 | | The Locust Plague Soundscapes
Such tightly organized madness. Some of the best drum playing I've heard, RIP Gabe. |
25 | | Hum Downward Is Heavenward
Such a classic. So many bands over the past 5 or so years trying to replicate what they did here and that's alright. |
26 | | Underoath Define the Great Line
Still fkn holds up. Another album I didn't think I'd still love. Wonderful mash of post-hardcore, metalcore and post-metal. |
27 | | Hell (USA) III
The best modern sludge band that isn't Thou. This album has more BM and post-rock/metal elements mixed in and stands out because of it. More people need to fall in love with these guys. |
28 | | Nine Inch Nails Year Zero
Heard this when I was around 12. Prob the reason I eventually got really into Electronic, Ambient, Industrial and a variety of other sounds. Album has such good beats aha. |
29 | | Gravediggaz 6 Feet Deep
All time fave hip-hop album. The interplay, lyrics, beats and spookiness are all top notch. |
30 | | Demilich Nespithe
Those weird angular DM riffs get me every time. Happy there's more and more bands with their influence. |
31 | | Chthe'ilist Le Dernier Crépuscule
Demilich worship band. Excellent example of being heavily influenced but also have a strong identity not completely reliant on it. |
32 | | Boys Night Out Trainwreck
Can't believe I still love this album. Some of my fave guitar work in the genre. |
33 | | Suis La Lune Riala
Screamo classic. Best clean tones in the game. |
34 | | Defeated Sanity Chapters of Repugnance
An assault of technical proficiency. Artwork perfectly incapsulates the hellish sounds within. |
35 | | Gorguts Obscura
The OG disso death album/band. Nothing will ever touch this for me. |
36 | | Radiohead In Rainbows
It's fkn Radiohead |
37 | | Cory Hanson The Unborn Capitalist From Limbo
A slept on psychedelic indie folk/country gem. |
38 | | Thou Tyrant
Maybe the best Sludge band. Hard to pick a favourite. V happy to see them garner more attention and also expand on their sound. |
39 | | The Mars Volta Amputechture
It's FKN VOLTA. Can't really decide on fave of their albums, maybeee this one. |
40 | | Idiot Pilot Wolves
One of my most listened to albums ever. Like post-hardcore influenced Radiohead/early Muse. Iunno the melodies just stay with ya. |
41 | | Failure In The Future Your Body Will Be The Furthest Thing From Your Mind
Fantastic Planet and this are tied. One of the greatest post-reunion albums ever. I saw them live this year and it sounded impeccable. |
42 | | Genghis Tron Board Up the House
This album man, that closer man, those synths, those screams and that album cover. Will forever love this. |
43 | | Integrity Those Who Fear Tomorrow
Fave Hardcore/proto-metalcore album |
44 | | Capsule (US) Blue
The madness of the playing/time signatures and droney/atmospheric clean parts always keep me coming back and want to pick up an instrument. |
45 | | Warning Watching from a Distance
Fave Doom album. The vocals are S tier. |
46 | | Television Marquee Moon
One of my most listened to albums. The songwriting and guitar playing are so good. It just sounds classic. |
47 | | Rex C
A newer addition to my favourites. Amazing blend of Slowcore with almost Country elements. Slept on classic. |
48 | | Killing Joke MMXII
Between this or the debut as my fave. The ferocity in Jazz's performance on this and overall atmosphere, is what made me pick it. Tho their debut is the true classic. |
