09.13.11 | All about the Locomotive Breath for me. One of the greatest rock songs of all time from it's epic beginning through it's timeless guitar riffs. |
Jethro42
09.13.11 | Man, I agree with you; Incredibly hard to rank, that is.
First 2 are out of this world, and 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 are nearly equally gorgeous.
As for Broadsword and ''A'', I need to revisit it; I kind of rejected it since a long while until I've read vanderb0b's review. ''A'' is worth a serious listen indeed. I love this album since it came out. |
Jethro42
09.13.11 | revisit it*
I mean Broadsword |

09.13.11 | Locomotive Breath is indeed a fantastic song. |

Ahhhhhh, so much synth........................ oh cool song. I never really got past Stormwatch tbh. |
Jethro42
09.13.11 | Yeah omni, Black Sunday rules sooooo much! |
omnipanzer
09.13.11 | They really just seemed to loose everything I loved about them after Songs From The Wood. I like Heavy
Horses (it's a 4) but it isn't the Tull I get infatuated with and want to listen to over and over
again like 1-7 on this list is. |
JamieTwort
09.13.11 | Black Sunday is a great song. |
Jethro42
09.13.11 | Ah, really? Heavy Horses has to be my 3rd or 4th fav. I appreciate so much its blend of prog folk and ''heaviness''. If compared to most of the classic prog bands, they had gone through the ruthless virage of the Dark Age of prog well enough. Their trademark song has changed with ''A'' album, adding all those synths and gadgets. BUT it's still quality Tull. Just quite a bit more poppy maybe. Omni, I urge you to get Roots to Branches, a kinda return to the classic Tull territories to some extent. |
JamieTwort
09.13.11 | "I like Heavy Horses (it's a 4) but it isn't the Tull I get infatuated with"
I wasn't too sure about Heavy Horses after my first or even second listen but now it's one of my favourites (as it's placement on this list suggests). I love the overrall feel of the album and find it to be slightly more consistent than Songs From the Wood. |
Jethro42
09.13.11 | *modern synths and gadgets..............holy shit, I also edit *trademark sound......sorry héhé |
omnipanzer
09.13.11 | About it being consistent, agreed. More so than War Child, Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young To Die! or Benefit. They are IMO half great albums. Half the tracks are great and half of them are completely forgettable imho. but there is no "Too Old Too Young", "Skating Away" or "For Michael Collins, Jeffrey and Me " on Heavy Horses for me. I may just need to listen to it a few more times but there just is no track that jumps out to me. |
omnipanzer
09.13.11 | "Roots to Branches"
I will take you up on that Jethro. |
JamieTwort
09.13.11 | The two tracks on Heavy Horses that jump out at me the most are Moths and the title track. |
Jethro42
09.13.11 | Please do, omni. A masterpiece to me. Released in 1995. By the way I will say, for those who are unaware, Ian Anderson's vocals were never the same since ''Crest of a Knave'', due to an important throat surgery. Vocals are only affected for the power. A tad.... |
Jethro42
09.13.11 | I just decided that Heavy Horses is officially my 3rd fav Tull's. Delightful A to Z. Also bumped up Passion Play by a .5 |
JamieTwort
09.13.11 | Heavy Horses is no doubt an incredible album. Ranking 3-5 was the hardest part for me, they're all superb. |
vanderb0b
09.14.11 | Great list, I agree with most of this. Also, it's nice to see Heavy Horses on here, it's incredibly underrated, but one of my favorite albums. Moths is without a doubt my favorite Tull song. |
Jethro42
09.14.11 | I never get tired of Moths me neither. |
JamieTwort
09.14.11 | Thanks vanderb0b. Moths is an amazing song, it's definitely up there with my favourite Tull songs. |
