Bad Production Leads To Ear Cancer

A short list of Albums I'm liking a lot, with one major aspect keeping me away from loving them: The production/recording quality, going from seriously annoying at best to brain melting at the very worst. I just can't listen to these records at an above-average volume without getting serious, long-lasting headaches. I am not at all despising "lo-fi" recordings in general, nearly any well-played/sung piece of music can turn to gold in the hands of a decent producer, even with very low produciton value at hand. But being a great musician does often not imply being able to make great-sounding records.
1Neutral Milk Hotel
In the Aeroplane over the Sea

The acoustic guitars are way too overcompressed, even worse are the E-guitars, especially on "King of Carrot Flowers pt.2", sounding more like an orgy of distorted farts and burps than like anything else.
2The tallest man on earth
The wild hunt

A musician I flat out admire for his potent songwriting, his singing style and particulary his accurate fingerpicking. However, I just don't get the idea behind the production of his records. Though this one sounds far better than his previous works, the excessive reverb and badly EQ'ed Vocals ruin my listening experience. This truly hurts, since he is one of the best live acts I've ever seen and deserves so much better.
No Devolucion

I like the sound of this record, for the most part, bearing in mind this thing was apparently recorded and mixed in one single week. However, someone should tell the singer that diving and tracking vocals should not be done simultaneously.
Diamond Eyes

Sometimes I feel that the drummer of this band seems to be reaaally fond of his hi-hat section. Even without that, the drumming is way tooo dominant in the mix, sometimes swallowing everything else.
Public Strain

Ugh.... Sometimes I'm feeling it, but most of the time I want to smash my speakers/headphones.
