My Top 6 Singers

in my opinion, singers who don't play instruments are hardly musicians, especially if they don't write their own lyrics. personally, i kinda have a natural hate for singers who dress up and dance w/ the mic stand on stage and think they're the shit, yet don't actually play any instruments (steven tyler, ronnie james dio, etc.). and especially singers who try to make everything all bluesy and profound when it doesn't have to be (ian gillan, robert plante especially). also, singers who are just tools and think they're badasses, but also don't play any instruments themselves (the singers from godsmack and disturbed mainly). also, i didn't include singers who mainly rap (such as p.o.d.'s, flobots' singers, etc.).
1Brad Nowell

now granted i'm an enormous sublime fan, so i have a bit of a bias, but brad nowell is just an amazing singer. he's down to earth, diverse, and a master of innovation during live performances (at guitar, too). such a shame that he died, albeit from his own doing. i legit think sublime could've been one of the top 3 to 5 bands of the 90's and 00's if not for his untimely passing. but his death isn't why he's #1 on this list: it's his funky fresh style. between rappy verses (such as the one in scarlet begonias), high-pitched bluesy fills (santeria, get out), raggae stylee, and sensational acoustic voice, brad nowell is truly a legend.
2Noel Gallagher

although oasis, including noel gallagher, are conceded as shit (once saying, "we're gonna be bigger than the beatles"), noel gallagher is an incredible singer. and although his brother liam serves as the band's lead singer on some of their most popular songs, such as wonderwall and champagne supernova, noel is, in my opinion, a far better singer, with a great somewhat deep voice. my personal fav's of his are talk tonight, half the world away, the masterplan, and don't look back in anger. plus, noel serves as the band's lyricist and lead guitarist, AND is supposedly better at drums than oasis' actual drummer.
3Nick Hexum

nick hexum, lead singer/guitarist from 311, is the shit. he's got a raggae/rock/ska so-cal voice that fits his music very well. nice raspy hint in his voice, too. i think i'd like 311 a lot better too if that other fag singer wasn't in the band, cuz he is just awful. i mean i gues it'd be okay if he rapped on a couple songs, but when he tries to sing it just ruins the song. also, nick hexum's a good enough rapper (see 'homebrew'), so fuck that other guy.
4Jack Johnson

such an easy-going, guitar/ukelele-strumming, song-writing dude. his voice just puts me in such a chill mood, what a down-to-earth singer.
5Chris Martin

now i think coldplay gets a bad rap sometimes cuz they're so popular, but i really love their first two albums and think chris martin's a great singer. his ability to go from low-pitched to high-pitched so flawlessly is special, and he can really sing (and play piano/guitar). the nice "aaaaahhh-ooooo-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh" thing at the end of 'the scientist' is beautiful, and i really love this guy's voice. my only complaint though is the song 'fix you' - he overdoes the high-pitchedness way too much and i fucking hate that song.
6chad kroeger

only joking, nickelback is the biggest disgrace in the history of music. i'd rather have a 3-way with both of my parents than listen to one of their albums front to back. i just had to throw him on this list to re-enforce his (and nickelback in general)'s shittiness.
