Josh D.
03.11.11 | One of my favorite movie scenes of all time. |
YetAnotherBrick
03.11.11 | The opening scene in the guy's house where he's hiding the people under the floor, (sorry for not being specific, I've only seen it once and it was a while ago) is seriously one of the best movie scenes I've ever seen. |

03.11.11 | Great scene, terrible film |

03.11.11 | Aside from this scene and the opening scene the movie can go to hell. Tarantino seriously fucked up big time with Basterds |

03.11.11 | Movie was excellent. And I don't like Tarantino. |
Deviant.
03.11.11 | Its shit. He cast Brad Pitt, he spends almost an entire movie relegating the movie's namesake to the background or out of the picture entirely, and the movie just plays out as a whole like a bunch of random scenes tacked together, rather than a proper film |

This so much. |

03.11.11 | The movie rules, you guys suck, it's about the dialogue. Christoph Waltz owned the movie. |
AngelofDeath
03.11.11 | Brad Pitt is a phenomenal actor; I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. |
Deviant.
03.11.11 | Brad Pitt is beyond terrible in Basterds.
"The movie rules, you guys suck, it's about the dialogue. Christoph Waltz owned the movie."
Basterds probably has Tarantino's worst dialogue, bar a few scenes. For a man who's spent his entire career working off of pop culture, he kinda dug himself a hole by filming a "period piece" |
Josh D.
03.11.11 | Bin ich Deutsche?
Bin ich Amerikan? |
Josh D.
03.11.11 | I'm kind of obsessed with Nazi Germany, so it is good to me. The dialogue is still great, I don't see the problem. Every scene has some incredible back-and-forth. |
ConsiderPhlebas
03.11.11 | If you look at old war movies, made soon after the actual war ended, when feelings were still raw, the German soldiers are depicted as human beings. Fast forward to Tarantino and you've got people jumping for joy whilst beating soldiers to death with baseball bats. Ridiculous. Two good set pieces don't make a film. |
AngelofDeath
03.11.11 | I disagree. The depth of analysis in history, culture, and cinema all play out wonderfully. And I feel like it was exceptionally acted with excellent dialogue. |
Josh D.
03.11.11 | The movie isn't supposed to represent historicity, so it's unfair to compare it that way.
The reason I love Valkyrie is because of the historicity and the some acting (not Cruise). The reason I love IB is the dialogue, for the most part. |
Deviant.
03.11.11 | If I remember correctly. I think he edited a whole lot out after the first festival screening. I would love to see like a director's cut because I find the whole pacing of the film to be just terrible |
Josh D.
03.11.11 | It was split the way many of his movies are though. It wasn't in media res like usual, but it jumped between scenes, but like his most popular ones, the scenes were long, with good, long dialogue and long single shots too.
I really haven't heard such a backlash with the movie before. |
Maniac!
03.11.11 | I enjoyed it, but I'm not a movie nazi.

03.11.11 | I didn't realize you had 4 on here though, awesome. |

03.11.11 | It's supposed to be a movie of what-ifs...none of it should be taken seriously. The end should've pointed that out. Just have to take it for what it is, a wicked flick with great actors/actresses portraying a wicked what-if scenario.
Christoph Waltz should've won every oscar that year |
Josh D.
03.11.11 | He won at least one, for supporting actor, right? |

03.11.11 | Wait, are you seriously implying that Inglourious Basterds didn't depict the Germans as human beings? The opposite is true, sir. Remember the officer with the Iron Cross, and the German soldiers in the bar? Your shit's all backwards.
I loved the movie, myself. |

There were a lot of monsters in Nazi germany, but there were also a lot of soldiers opposed to the racism and bigotry that Hitler dished out, who were unlucky enough to get conscripted. There were nazi soldiers executed by there own people because they were diverting trains away from the death camps. Those 'poor nazis' saved more lives than you uneducated children ever will, so excuse me for defending the 'bad guys'. Fucking abject moron. |

03.11.11 | ConsiderPhlebas, I was joking, I'm fully aware of all of that. The Wehrmacht was full of heroic people who objected to concentration camps insisting that POWs should be treated fairly and soldiers who were only doing their part to fight for their country. Don't you think you're just being a little bit uptight about a Quentin Tarantino movie? |
