12.11.09 | 1 and 3 are amazing, 5 is good |
TRMshadow
12.11.09 | A lot of these are good, but I wouldn't call them heavy. Heavy is Isis and SYL like stuff. |
johnunderstood
12.11.09 | @TRMshadow what the hell do i call the list then? If i call it metalcore then ill get all of these douches telling me that metalcore is only converge, and if i call it hardcore then people will tell me that these arent hardcore. |
qwe3
12.11.09 | didnt you know? everything thats heavy has to be heavy relative to Isis. obv. |
FeralMemories
12.11.09 | Sleeping Giant and Gaza are Hardcore, but the rest is more Metalcore/Post-Hardcore. In this day and age, I classify Converge more as Mathcore or Metallic Hardcore to seperate them. Just use metalcore, you'll be fine. |
FeralMemories
12.11.09 | And also, I really REALLY enjoyed 8 despite what others think. |
qwe3
12.11.09 | who cares what genre of hardcore they are, they're all heavy... |
shortone323
12.11.09 | Well for one, Birth.Eater isn't heavy and it should be classified as post hardcore. Also why do people like that album? |
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | Also, who cares? Genre this and genre that. If ya like it ya like it, who cares what label it has to go under. |
qwe3
12.11.09 | "Also, who cares? Genre this and genre that. If ya like it ya like it, who cares what label it has to go under."
qwe's post 2.0
|
shortone323
12.11.09 | ^ Yea, that's kinda true, but this is a music site. So...that's part of it |
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | It's a music site, so it shouldn't turn into a bitch session about what goes where, it's a moot argument because no way everyone will walk away satisfied. Let the bands themselves worry about the genre tagging and we'll just worry about whether it's good or not, k? |
qwe3
12.11.09 | "this is a music site"
so that means you can argue about superfluous genres on a list that's dedicated to heavy music in general?
|
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | Exactly qwe3, this isn't best thrash of 2009. The user made sure to avoid the stigma of genre tagging, went as broad as he could with the title, and you still feel compelled to bring up a non relevant issue. |
qwe3
12.11.09 | i was replying to shortone |
shortone323
12.11.09 | Jesus. Well, Oceana is not really heavy to begin with (at least on Birth.Eater), and he says metalcore at the top. Just trying to clear up what I saw as a misconception. And I'm not really bitching...
And lol qwe. You can talk about whatever the fuck you want in a list about something completely different. At least based on what I've seen. And I could pretty much talk about whatever I want as well, and this is something related to the list. And lists are supposed to encourage discussion. So yea.
Don't really mean to hate on anyone here, but a guy's gotta defend himself. |
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | I was agreeing with you qwe3 |
qwe3
12.11.09 | the freedom to talk about whatever you want on a list doesn't mean what you say isn't dumb. i mean it seems like these people are going "omg this isnt _____-hardcore its actually metalcore or ____core" etc on a list that's just dedicated to heavy albums. |
qwe3
12.11.09 | likewise, not hating on you man |
AnotherBrick
12.11.09 | "and you still feel compelled to bring up a non relevant issue." lol i musta read that wrong then, i thought you were going after qwe |
shortone323
12.11.09 | Key word there is opinion. I think it's dumb that he put Birth.Eater on a list of heavy music in the first place. Also, he seemed kinda confused when he commented on the list so I just tried to point him in the right direction on an album I knew something about.
It is trivial, but I'm bored and can't go to sleep. So why not? Also it's a bit more interesing than "1,3,5,6 good" or whatever. |
Powerban
12.11.09 | I sense a long-winded philosophical sputnik orgy coming up. Opinions vs. Opinions. Who will win?
I know 7 is win though, nice list here overall. |
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | No I was agreeing with qwe3 who was responding to shortone and throwing in an extra 2 cents |
PaperTigers
12.11.09 | "It's a music site, so it shouldn't turn into a bitch session about what goes where, it's a moot argument because no way everyone will walk away satisfied. Let the bands themselves worry about the genre tagging and we'll just worry about whether it's good or not, k?"
Wow. That might be the most intelligent and least pretentious post I've seen here. Not that there's much competition for that title here, but I still appreciate it. |
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | I try my best :) |
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | Oh, and Powerban: I hope not! I've only been here just under 2 weeks or so and i've been in too many already lol |
ameypv
12.11.09 | there are so many 'heavy' albums than most in the list. props for 1,3,7 though. |
ameypv
12.11.09 | add the word better after many :P |
shortone323
12.11.09 | I hereby rescind my first statement and change it to: "4 sucks and isn't heavy."
Happy now? |
johnunderstood
12.11.09 | What makes oceana not heavy? I guess its not like heavy like gaza but heavy is a seriously broad term and I think that album has some seriously heavy moments so I included it on my list. |
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | And it's still the same, another round of idiots who now wanna complain
that the list here contains "crap" music and there's so much more out
there that's heavier than this.
Note: list says MY favourite heavy albums of 2009, not YOUR'S. |
ameypv
12.12.09 | ^the purpose of the 'many other albums' is only to encourage the chap to listen to em.no negative intention or pun intended |
Dreamsoffew
12.12.09 | I've really gotta start quoting people lol, was talking about Shortone.
It's amusing how he can sit at a computer and try act all pretentious about music, it's like varied opinions don't exist. |
shortone323
12.12.09 | Holy shit. First off, I never actively argued anyone until you said something to me. All I did was say my opinion, which fufills the purpose of a list, which in my understanding is used to stimulate discussion, and offer clarification on a point which I observed the list creator to be in confusion about (which may have been wrong, but it was late when I saw this).
Then, after getting attacked by you and qwe I relented, and instead returned to my original point of discussion, which is that Birth.Eater is a bad album. In my first post, I asked for an explanation as to why people liked it, as I, being a fan of their earlier, less mediocre work, could not find any enjoyment in it. I left off that last bit in my later statement because I was frustrated with how this discussion was going.
Now, is that really so pretentious and bad? My original point was to stimulate discussion on that album, with the band's genre being a secondary fact. Now, had I originally said "I think Birth.Eater kinda sucks, can you explain why you liked it? And it really isn't heavy to me. Also, if you're wondering (which, with my late night reasoning, seems pretty justifiable) they would be classified as post hardcore," then the genre would've been secondary to opinon, which probably would've changed the course of this discussion. Now why didn't I do that, you ask? Because it's just not practical because these kind of comments happen all the time here, and no one seems to have a problem with them.
Now, Dreamsoffew, I understand varied opinons exist, as I must, because mine disagrees with the list creator's. And if you look at my first post again, you'll see the word "why" in there, which implies that I don't really believe it to be a fact(err maybe not but it's close enough), and that I would like to see it from his view because I really do want to get into the album, I just don't get what's good about it.
So would you kindly(haha Bioshock reference) stop making me out to be a fucking asshole when all I'm trying to do is express my opinion in a medium where that is the goal? |
qwe3
12.12.09 | HAHAHA WOAH
totally not reading that. |
GnarlyShillelagh
12.12.09 | Little surprised at the lack of Axe to Fall, but nice list nonetheless. At least there was no Mastodon. |
