Lakes Top 15 Artists V2.0
some of you may remember that around this time last year i did a top 15 artists list based on last.fm/other stuff. doing this again to show how my taste has fully formed now and stuff....sort of |
15 | | Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique
tie w/ anberlin and can. the b-boys are amazing |
14 | | Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago
emotional, or something |
13 | | Bright Eyes Lifted Or the Story is in the Soil...
....Or the Album/Artist that defined my February 2011. |
12 | | Joanna Newsom Have One on Me
hotttttt. also i know ys is better than HOoM. but it had to be done. |
11 | | Kitaro The Light of The Spirit
i don't often listen to kitaro's work because unlike other artists, his "songs" are an experience in themselves and it's hard to listen to them individually, but despite that, kitaro has provided me with some of the greatest moments of realization in my life, and the consistent excellence of his music cannot be ignored. |
10 | | Weezer Pinkerton
even in their most insipid moments, it's hard for me to dislike weezer. some may find it all too easy to do, but weezer seem to have this inherent likability for me, and at their best, there's nothing better. pinkertonpinkertonpinkerton. |
9 | | Radiohead Kid A
there was once a time when i thought ok computer to be the greatest album of all time, but alas, kid a has overtaken it in my book as my interest in electronic music has escalated. |
8 | | The National Alligator
high violet and boxer are also amazing, but alligator has become my main listening because it's easier to put on than HV or boxer. |
7 | | Badfinger Wish You Were Here
it's hard to explain exactly why i like badfinger, but at their best they represent 70s power pop in its purest form, and it's completely magical. |
6 | | The Beatles Revolver
although i too have became weary of the beatles at times, they're considered the greatest band of all-time for a reason; a lot of their albums actually were that good, and revolver especially. |
5 | | Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion
in the span of the last five months or so, animal collective have slowly morphed into my new favorite band. delightfully weird and euphoric, AC are a daily listening must for me. |
4 | | Neutral Milk Hotel On Avery Island
we all know what album should really be listed there, but avery island has some amazing tracks too like naomi (easily in my top 15 NMH tracks). at this point i don't even need to mention how good in the aeroplane over the sea is, but it's still the main reason why NMH made it this far up my list with only a two-album discography. luvit. |
3 | | Tegan and Sara So Jealous
i'd say tegan and sara are probably the second most "life-defining" artist behind sufjan stevens in that their songs have become the soundtracks to many, many moments, and have always provided happiness or anything else. tegan and sara are so consistent and amazing and awesome, it's no surprise they have such a fandom. and they do. |
2 | | Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
unlike sufjan, i have kind of wore out kanye west, but MBDTF is still amazing and 808s and heartbreak is always good for a listen here and there. lots of obsessive listening. |
1 | | Sufjan Stevens The Age of Adz
predictable i know. i am nearing probably 100+ plays of this album, but mostly it remains me of dew on the school bus windows in the morning, of piercing emotions of sadness and confusion where a ray of euphoric hope shone through. this may sound pretentious to you but to anyone who's ever had such a life-defining experience with an album, you'll know what i mean. luckily, illinois also ranks among my favorite albums and michigan isn't far behind. all this combined with a tremendous replayability factor makes sufjan my top artist. |
