NOTHING BUT BLACK METAL NOVEMBER 2020

Will update daily.
1Nietzu
Submersion

Atmospheric black metal with punk/post-punk influences.
2Firnglow
A Long Awaited Presence

Kitschy black metal from Grime Stone Records.
3Witches Moon
An Olde Goat's Game of Stars

Atmospheric black metal w/folk & dungeon synth undertones.
4Spirit Possession
Spirit Possession

Off-kilter, riff driven black metal that bridges 80's, 90's, and modern sounds into a cohesive package. The brainchild of savant Stephen Peacock of Pandiscordian Necrogenesis and Ulthar fame.
5Weald and Woe
The Fate of Kings and Men

Somewhat in the vein of Obsequiae, Weald and Woe play a form of black metal heavily informed by traditional heavy metal, oscillating between blizzardous blackened fervor and triumphant medieval melodies. It's a bit rawer in comparison, but that only strengthens its more harmonious moments.
6A Pregnant Light
You Cannot Pour From An Empty Vessel

Though APL started as a fairly average American raw black metal band, the moment frontman/main composer Damian Master started to treat the endeavor as a solo project, it became immediately and infinitely more interesting. Dubbed "purple metal" due to it's convergence of black metal, punk, rock, and various other decidedly non-metal elements, the sonic description of APL may seem overwhelming but if You Cannot Pour From An Empty Vessel is any indication, Master has well,... MASTERED the ability to throw everything against the wall and still walk away satisfied with the collage of sound left behind. What's most important is the genuinely emotional component APL just exudes, in small part due to the lyricism and in bigger part due to Master's ragged howl. If you're looking to break into black metal with a bit more depth, this is a great place to start.
7Unholy Vampyric Slaughter Sect
The World Trapped in Vampyric Sway

UVSS for me are the embodiment of what experimental black metal should be; not too far off from their parent genre for their qualifications as a black metal to be called into question yet also not traditional enough to be accused to second wave mimicry. the world trapped in vampyric sway is their second full-length record and an impressive combination of raw black metal, celestial ambience, and odd electronic noodling. The album consistently forces you to expect the unexpected; “And I Shall Come to Thee as a Iron Wolf” juxtaposes its chaotic tremolo picked intro against an unnerving yet oddly beautiful ambient mid-section, only to abruptly open back up to a trudging blackened doom outro. There’s little in the way smooth transitions, but it’s jarring execution only helps to build the tracks tension. It’s odds and ends like this -among what is truly impressive and compelling metallic writing- that makes this record such an addicting listen. Highly recommend.
8Skaphe
Skáphe³

The Iceland/Philadelphia trio are back with their 3rd self titled, their most terrifying yet tempered yet. Again, they play a super chaotic, atmospheric form of black metal that will send a creep down your spine. What I enjoy most about this record is the subtle use of melody, which in itself is well done, but also adds to the creep factor when the band kicks it into overdrive.
9Cradle of Filth
Hammer of the Witches

Read my review for it. Easy black metal classic.
10Delice
Sillage

A very Autumnal black metal record.
11The Black Twilight Circle
Tliltic Tlapoyauak

The best black metal compilation in the history of genre brought to you by the best black metal collective in its canon. Perfect from beginning to end.
