Grim Faces In Cold Places

I've been getting back into black metal lately. These are some of the records I've been digging.
1The Black Twilight Circle
Tliltic Tlapoyauak

i recently found a pro-tape version of this, and it makes it even better before. It's cool to see the newer and older generations together, and every band here displays the talent the BTC has become known for. Recommended highly for black metal enthusiasts.
2Mors Atra Crucis
I

raw black metal from George Proctor of White Medal fame. Melodic with a punk stomp.
3Odz Manouk
Odz Manouk

raw black metal, with off-kilter riffs that almost make you feel uncomfortable. But that's a good thing.
4Salvaticus
Hidden Manna

pretty straightforward black metal. The songs about 9 minutes long but will keep you thoroughly entertained thanks to some cool acoustic interludes and tempo changes
5Sejr
Demo

blackened punk from the dudes in Iceage
6Akatharsia
Demo

another black metal/punk hybrid, but these guys don't just focus on speed and simplicity. there is some nice depth to this collection of songs that makes it stand out from other albums of its kind. oh, and it's another project from mike of fell voices
7Axeman
Arrive

if you haven't listened to this already, SHAME ON YOU.
8Cara Neir
The Overwatch

not strictly black metal, but its main influence. combines the black metal/screamo of their lps with the brevity and aggression of their sublimation therapy ep
9Black Beasts
II

raw black metal/punk/noise ... kicks ass
10Dommedagssalme
Terra

self-described as "astral black metal" ... more like "ASStral black metal", amirite? just kidding, this rules. it's ambient black metal, where the celestial ambiance takes the forefront, creating a very meditative atmosphere
11 Dross
I & II

mid-tempo black metal with a focus on repetition and melody. still harsh, but easy to like
12 Arizmenda
Within The Vacuum Of Infinity

a modern classic in my opinion
13Carved Cross
Futile Reflections of a Failed Existence

one of the most inaccessible black metal bands out there. that being said, if you can get over the repetition and the production, this is a very rewarding listen.
14 Circle of Ouroborous
Kuuhun Kahlittu

one of the most underrated black metal bands out there today. this is one of their heavier releases for sure
15Kuxan Suum
Kuxan Suum

another project from the guy who does arizmenda. kuxan suum delves pretty deep into psychedelic realm and it really creates a unique sound. one of my favorite modern bm "groups".
16In Thoth
In Thoth

just straight up black metal with a nice, filthy production
17Moonknight
Senmorta

blackened thrash. simple and mindless and therefore, enjoyable.
18Taut
Fantasty Mapped In Blood

raw and torturous slow-paced black metal, but REALLY FREAKING GOOD
19Sump
Taken Dead

you should know how these guys are by now
20Cirrhus
Cirrhus LP

the most epic mixture of black metal and punk ... these guys have such an awesome sound
21Sexdrome
Grown Younger

once again, you should know who this is by this point
22Furdidurke
Native

catchy and punky black metal
23Pantheon I
Worlds I Create

pretty much the complete antithesis of everything i've posted so far. really technical and well-produced black metal... that never takes away from how great it is though. there is also pretty prevalent use of the cello, but they make it work in a way that is not horribly cheesy
24Summoning
Stronghold
25Miserere Luminis
Miserere Luminis

some seriously underrated canadian black metal. very atmospheric, much -post
