foreverendeared
09.08.11 | Hmmm that's a tough one. I'd say book smarts, Sam Harris is the smartest. I mean he is a neuroscientist. Hitchens is probably the smartest rhetorist (not sure if that's a word but it should be). Dennit is the smartest thinker, and Dawkins is the smartest in the field of evolution. So they all have their niches that their best at. My favorite to read and watch debate is Hitchens. Sam is great to listen to explain things because he does so very concisely and understandably. Dennit I can hardly listen to because he's just not a good speaker, but his ideas are great. Dawkins I've probably actually learned the most from.

"Win7 blows it out of the water though."
Absolutely, 7 fixes all my complaints about Vista. Anyone in the industry will concede to 7 64 possibly being Windows best OS to date. |
BigHans
09.09.11 | Funny thing is they have already code-named Winidows 7 Replacement and are probably going to release it in the next year. Would be a dumb move IMO since Win 7 has a pretty good reputation and sales. I guess historically MS has released a new OS every 3 years, with the exception of XP, which I believe went almost 6 |
omnipanzer
09.09.11 | The compatibility issues with Vista alone were a fucking nightmare. It was a resource hog, it uses almost the same resources as 7 but you got a lot less OS for the price. The Security features were a nightmare for anyone without a decent understanding of computers and for all that effort it was still a virus magnet. Even software compatibility was a joke and I haven't had a single problem with that with 7 yet. 7 has even installed legacy hardware I couldn't find drivers for. The same hardware wouldn't work with vista with the approved manufacturers driver.

omnipanzer
09.09.11 | "I still remember having SOOOO many issues with 2000. Especially with gaming, but 98 was solid."
Yah there was an issue with NT vs FAT back then and you may have just had a bad copy/install. It isn't unusual to have a bad experience with an OS but I'm coming from a tech perspective of many many installs on many many computers over a very large period of time. I'm not faulting you, you really may have had a bad experience but over all 2000 was the best they released to that point. Lots of people swore by 98SE until XP came out mostly due to compatibility issues. 98SE was a really good OS for the time but 2000 had a far better at networking and the NT architecture was far superior as one locked program doesn't crash the whole OS (which was an issue with 98). |

09.09.11 | Never really liked him that much :( but based on how popular and influential he is, should prob switch out Louis for Pryor. |

09.09.11 | Notrap; Nick Mason is just an average, repetitive drummer. To me. |

09.09.11 | Jethro, it's not about technique ;-)
Repetitive? Yesssss it's his signature, Floyd's larger than life signature |
Jethro42
09.09.11 | His signature? He only does the same beat on and on. I agree that this everlasting beat fits throughout all their songs. It's not a plus for me though. |
TheNotrap
09.09.11 | It's not important if Nick is an amazing drummer to me Jethro.
Pink Floyd is my larger than life band...like probably Genesis is for you or Maiden for another guy here.

09.09.11 | Pink Floyd is a top 10 for me, don't get me wrong. But I've always felt that Mason was a lucky guy to play with these guys. He probably was a close friend of someone in there. |
TheNotrap
09.09.11 | He and Water were really close.
I understand your point about his technique but I just can't see Floyd with another drummer.
Do you imagine Beatles without Ringo?
That's the point of being larger than life IMO |
Jethro42
09.09.11 | Yeah you have a good point there. Supertramp would not be Supertramp without Benberg. Neil Peart wouldn't fit too much with Genesis. etc etc...But if we are convinced that everyone in every band is at his place, it's mostly because our ears are getting used to it. I mean it's pleasant for me to think about some exceptions if you give an effort; I dont have any trouble to imagine Neil Peart playing for Deep Purple. Same for Ian Paice playing for Rush. So THERE are exceptions to the rule. |

09.09.11 | "...But if we are convinced that everyone in every band is at his place, it's mostly because our ears are getting used to it".
Well said
But it just the way life is.
You get used to things....get used how things sound and you don't wanna change it a bit if that means something to you.

Jethro42
09.09.11 | Yeah of course. A band couldnt survive too long without a solid chemistry between each other, so yeah. |
