| Florida Music Can Be Good!
Grizzly Adams DID have a beard! | 1 | | Poison the Well The Opposite of December
South Florida metalcore and a pioneer of the genre. | 2 | | Death Human
Another pioneer of a genre, but this time, it's death metal. RIP Chuck! | 3 | | Less Than Jake Hello Rockview
I'm not really that much of a ska fan. In fact, I despise most of the genre, but goddamn, is this catchy. | 4 | | Against Me! Reinventing Axl Rose
Against Me! is like a movie that starts off really good, and you're expecting it to just lead to this glorious conclusion. But all it does is end with a splat. 'Nuff said. | 5 | | Nonpoint Statement
Listen, I'm sentimental, okay? This came out when I was probably 16 or 17, and I couldn't stop listening to it. Hell, I'll still throw it on here and then. Plus, I was in one of their music videos, so I got a soft spot in my heart 4 Elias and the boys. | 6 | | Shai Hulud That Within Blood Ill-Tempered
This is as close as I can find to real South Florida hxc. Yes, I know, they moved to New York, but this is still where they found their place in music. Classic album from a classic group. | 7 | | Obituary Cause of Death
I cannot find, nor think of, any great Florida-based thrash acts, so I had to choose a death metal act that I felt had major thrash influences, and the first band that popped into my mind was Obituary. | 8 | | Matchbox Twenty Yourself Or Someone Like You
The best example of Florida pop I could find, these guys had 5 Top 20 hits come off of this album. If you are my age and you never caught yourself singing along to any of those 5 songs, then you must not have a heart. | 9 | | New Found Glory New Found Glory
Well, here's my token pop-punk act. Yes, their music is/was catchy. Yes, they blew up. Yes, they got worse as they got older. Should have seen that coming. Jordan's a prick, and Chad, well.... Chad should have never left Shai Hulud. Too bad. | 10 | | 2 Live Crew As Nasty As They Wanna Be
Any group that get's banned in Miami is okay with me. If you lived down here, you'd know it took a lot back then to get into any trouble. The 1980's Hurricane football program should be evidence enough. Luther, you're still the man, too. | |

02.28.10 | I know I missed a lot, but I am planning to make this a weekly serial entitled "Nick Knows More About Music Than Any of You." This is part 1 of 133. | GnarlyShillelagh
02.28.10 | lmao 2 live crew | intothepit83
02.28.10 | Had to put it there. If it wasn't for Luke, we wouldn't have 16 year old white kids coming from the rich parts of Broward and Dade counties blasting their bass out the cars mommy and daddy bought them, annoying everyone else in a 30-mile radius | Captain North
02.28.10 | Fuck yes for 1 and 4 | intothepit83
02.28.10 | Is ThePalaceofWisdom gonna be here anytime soon? I'm waiting for him/her/shim to tell me that Arcade Fire invented metalcore or whatever bullshit he wants to spew out of his mouth. | JWT155
02.28.10 | Awesome stuff, Underoath's a band I like whom I believe are from Florida. | intothepit83
02.28.10 | Yea, they're from Tampa. For the best of Florida metalcore, the only band you have to look for is Poison the Well | JWT155
02.28.10 | Good point, still need to listen to them more. | intothepit83
02.28.10 | You must, it is essential in anyone's collection, from "The Opposite of December" to "The Tropic Rot" | JWT155
02.28.10 | I really like them, they're just one of those odd few bands I just never get around to listening to on my CPU. Definitely make sure I'll listen to them sometime tomorrow cause I'm goin to sleep soon. | Captain North
02.28.10 | Just don't bother with Versions. | intothepit83
02.28.10 | Captain North- I disagree, respectfully of course. I thought "Versions" was a real change for the better for the band. They were trying to show that they were above a genre that was getting stale, and I loved it. Once you get past the fact that this isn't your adolescent Poison the Well anymore, you begin to see the beauty and the genius of the album. | thediamondcanopy
02.28.10 | You're *snicker* forgetting *snicker* A DAY TO REMEMBER! | BallsToTheWall
02.28.10 | Not sure is Morbid Angel counts becaue they transplanted but yeah, severely lacking Creed and Limp Bizkit. | Masochist
02.28.10 | Good stuff on here...most of the punk rock is awesome. How could you forget Hot Water Music, though!?
Oh...and then there's Anberlin, Underoath, Iron & Wine, Atheist, Copeland and Yellowcard (I know...but I dig 'em). | EVedder27
02.28.10 | yeahhh matchbox twenty. Mad Season is better though. | theacademy
02.28.10 | needs jacksonville's finest, limp bizkit. | intothepit83
03.01.10 | balls-ya, i debated over that, but i couldn't leave out one of the bands that helped the movement, even if they were transplants
thediamondcanopy- no, i wouldn't forget about a day to remember. ya, i remember perfectly how much they suck.
masochit- i didn't forget about any of those bands at all. i just picked my favorites
theacademy- see comment on "Opeth/In Flames" list | Captain North
03.01.10 | intothepit, it has nothing to do with the change in sound. I love The Tropic Rot and its a natural continuation (also, YCBY was hardly typical in the first place), but the production is so shoddy, and the pace so stale compared to all their other stuff. It's slowly, slowly growing on me, but it's still their worst album in my eyes. | intothepit83
03.01.10 | I'm agreeing with you that it's not their best. I see that 100%. But how can you label an album "the worst" by a band that's as great at PTW? Their worst is better than everyone else's. But ya, essentially, i agree that it's not at the top of the list | Captain North
03.01.10 | Well, because its a LOT worse than their other stuff. I used to have it as 2.5 then moved it to 3, while the lowest of their other stuff is 4 (Tear From the Red). | intothepit83
03.01.10 | I dunno, it's at a 3.5 for me. I'mn a lili biased towards them, since I've known 2 of the band members since high school. Either way, thyre stilll one of my favoirte bands of all time | Captain North
03.01.10 | Wow, so you're like 30? I thought all the members on here we high school/uni kids. But that's pretty damn awesome. I've only been listening to them since The Tropic Rot came out, but they're quickly becoming favourites. Listen to them almost every day since then. | intothepit83
03.01.10 | lol, thanks for making me feel old. I turned 27 on Friday. And ya, I'm one of the top 10 oldest users on here | Inveigh
03.28.10 | ^yep with me and BigHans. and I love Versions, although it took almost three years for me to come to that conclusion. | Counterfeit
03.28.10 | theacademy beat me to it. |
