10.03.09 | that's 100 pounds btw, the £ symbol doesn't want to show up in my browser. | Athom
10.03.09 | with your price range everything would be belt-driven so just get a cheap Sony like the PSLX250H and then get a nice cartridge. | Prophet178
10.03.09 | You might want to save up some money and get a decent deck instead of buying something cheap.
Cheaper tables have cheaper cartridges and will sound pretty crappy, you'll get a lot of scratches and pops and probably won't find yourself using it very much.
If you really want to go that cheap, I would probably start with one of the Ion tables and upgrade later on, don't bother getting a new cart for it. I would probably try and look for something used though if possible. | scotish
10.03.09 | sounds like I need to up my budget then. that's not a real problem as I could just wait for christmas I guess. what would you guys suggest that's closer to the lower end price of decent gear?
and I would prefer to avoid belt driven if I could (knew that I'd forgot something in the criteria >_ | Prophet178
10.03.09 | You can't go wrong with a Technics or any of the knock offs (like the Audio Technica AT-PL120), you could probably find a good used Technics for just above 200, or buy the AT for around that new.
If you want to go a little above that, the Regas and Pro-Jects are really nice, you just might want to upgrade the cart later on, but you will be more than satisfied with it out of the box.
Once you get past that point it just gets a little ridiculous, buying tables without carts at over a grand and what not. | Prophet178
10.03.09 | Oh and check out this site, http://www.needledoctor.com/Online-Store/Budget-Turntables
You should be able to find something you like there. Just cross check some of the tables with user reviews on Amazon before you buy. |
