I'm sure I'm missing a bunch since i've been swilling bourbon all night, but for what it's worth I intentionally left off a bunch of great southern bands that I wasn't sure fit the bill from a sound perspective like Mastodon, Today is the Day, Baroness, Kylesa, etc.
hit me with some recs sputiverse
Dude jam pride & glory
You need to Mourn the Southern Skies
1 to 11 are all fantastic and 12 to 15 are pretty fun albums as well
Definitely jam Pride & Glory, which is probably best Zakk album
Myself I'd also prefer The Blessed Hellride and Stronger Than Death over Sonic Brew when it comes to BLS
Jerry Cantrell's Degradation Trip also has a slight southern swirl to it, def jam that one if you haven't already done so
Exhorder's debut is another cornerstone southern groove classic
Other bands that got some southern touches (but probably wouldn't qualify as fully "southern metal") are Panopticon, Kyuss, Kylesa, Cobalt, (early) Mastodon, Inter Arma, Thou, Church of Misery (even though they're from Japan lol), Iron Monkey (they're from UK tho) and I'd even throw Grief, Norma Jean and Lamb of God in there as well at points
check deadbird if you haven't yet
sup Dom! love Deadbird, on your rec actually from a few years back. good call though my man
as to other comments I love all of those bands/releases, especially Pride & Glory. Panopticon is an interesting one that I didn't consider as I think of them as black metal, but Kentucky definitely has a southern influence (obviously).
Stoner metal sounds awesome on CBD.
One of the members of Rwake was in a rap-metal band in 1993 (they existed for one year only) named "Mutha's Day Out". I saw them on Beavis and Butthead. They were like proto-Linkin Park.
I’ve listened to Bongzilla on CBD as well.
random that CBD comment is why you're the weirdest user on this site. i swear to god someday i'm gonna find out who's alt you are
but if you are in fact real, i love you even more
Only after you eat Twix bars and drink Rolling Rock will you become just like Jimmy Pop from Bloodhound Gang.
That has nothing to do with anything.
