Devstep

Recently I've seen a lot of people asking for dubstep recs so I decided to make this little list of somewhat essentials that I think would be a great starting point into the various sounds of the genre. From the sonic boom of Excision to the more laid back approach of James Blake, all these artists and albums/EPs are well worth your time. And yes - that Burial guy is on this list
116Bit
Cobra
22562
Unbalance
3Bar 9
Shaolin Style

There's also a rather unfortunate titled mix by Bar 9 that features some great tracks, but also a bonus disc with about a dozen tracks by Bar 9 himself. Shame the mix is called 'Bar 9 In Da Mix'
4Benga
Diary of an Afro Warrior
5Borgore
Borgore Ruined Dubstep (Part 2)

I think this is his best yet
6Boxcutter
Oneiric
7Breakage
Foundation

Mixes dubstep with old school jungle and drum and bass
8Broken Note
Terminal Static
9Burial
Burial

The forgotten album
10Burial
Untrue

The obvious album
11Clubroot
Clubroot
12Clubroot
II - MMX
13Darkstar [UK]
Round Ours

Great bunch of singles, then they made a pop album.....
14Deadboy
U Cheated
15Digital Mystikz
Return II Space
16Distance
My Demons

Fucking paranoid
17Distance
Repercussions

Its a little too sprawling at times (its 18 tracks over 2 discs) which stops me from rating it as highly as 'My Demons' but still well worth a look. Highlights are the foot stomping 'Konkrete', the addictive 'V' and the mysterious trip hop tinged 'Feel Me'
18Downlink
Ignition
19Emalkay
Grimecore Vol. 1
20Excision, Datsik & Flux Pavilion
Boom
21Guido
Anidea
22Headhunter [UK]
Nomad
23Ikonika
Contact, Love, Want, Have
24Ital Tek
Midnight Colour
25James Blake
Klavierwerke EP

Aside from the title track of the CMYK EP this one trumps it - one of the EPs of the year
26Jazzsteppa
Jazzsteppa
27Joker
Kapsize EP
28Joy Orbison
The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow

Simply amazing - also check out his breakthrough track 'Hyph Mngo', one of the sexiest tracks ever
29Kode9 & The Spaceape
Memories Of The Future
30Kromestar
My Sound
31Kryptic Minds
One Of Us
32Martyn
Great Lengths

Infused with house
33Mount Kimbie
Crooks & Lovers

Apparently not as good as CMYK
34Nero
Requiem
35Optikatechniqua
Sinister Dub
36Pariah [UK]
Safehouses

EP of the year - also Pitchfork raving about him being the new face of post dubstep = lol
37Rusko
Babylon: Volume 1

I still like his album dammit
38Scuba
A Mutual Antipathy

Prefer this to 'Triangulation' but get that too
39Shackleton
Three EPs
40Skream
Skreamizm: Vol. 1

So his self titled is pretty good, but his Skreamizm series (currently at 5 now) still holds his best material
41Starkey
Ephemeral Exhibits
42Stenchman
The Album
43Sukh Knight
Born Invincible
44The Bug
London Zoo
45The Others
The Otherside
46Tomba
Choke On Coke
47Untold
Gonna Work Out Fine
48Vaski
Terror Dome
49Vex'd
Degenerate
50Zomby
One Foot Ahead Of The Other EP
