07.09.13 | Sput needs more hair metal. Fools be all depressed and morose n' shit. Hair metal is the cure to that malaise. |
JamieTwort
07.09.13 | Great list. Hair metal rules.
6 is 1 for me. |
Havey
07.09.13 | 9 is horrible i hate it |
danielcardoso
07.09.13 | Richie Sambora guys!
Btw, props for 1. |
ViperAces
07.09.13 | 4 is really good |
JamieTwort
07.09.13 | Was jamming Mr. Big earlier.
One guitarist I would add is Doug Aldrich. He played in the hair metal bands Lion and Hurricane. |
tempest--
07.09.13 | Nuno is the best |
Titan
07.09.13 | Great list.....but I never considered 1 to be hair metal. Frank Hannon, The Snake, and Mick Mars would be on my list and is easily the best member of Motley Crue. I'd have 6 much higher as well. |
JamieTwort
07.09.13 | Yeah I've never considerred Van Halen to be hair metal either although they did influence the genre. |
mifzal
07.09.13 | dimebag was once glam metal |
danielcardoso
07.09.13 | How about some Def Leppard, folks? |
TrueBlood
07.09.13 | list is prejudice |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | I love Def Lep but the guitar work is nothing special. Vivian Campbell can shred with the best, but he doesn't seem interested in it anymore. Phil Collen is good but not great. Steve Clark was just ok.
And Sambora is also a very 'feel' guitarist, but not really a shredder. He could probably take the place of Tracii Guns, but I put Guns in for the lulz. The guy is the ultimate never was. |
danielcardoso
07.09.13 | Yeah, you're probably right, but Sambora has some wicked riffs and solos.
In "These Days", mostly, he really showcases his abilities. |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | Snake and Mars are/were great riffers and I'd feel bad about putting Hannon in and leaving out Skeoch. |
manosg
07.09.13 | I'm not a fan of the genre but props for Tracii Guns. |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | "dimebag was once glam metal"
You mean DIAMOND Darrell? Power Metal is a pretty sweet album honestly. Amazing how much Anselmo's voice changed. |
YoYoMancuso
07.09.13 | We can't talk about hair metal without discussing Joe Satriani amirite |
tempest--
07.09.13 | more like bald metal amirite |
TheNotrap
07.09.13 | Nice choices. Ronnie Le Tekro and John Norum are also great shredders. |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | It's so hard to imagine Satch and Billy Corgan with hair, that I am actually disgusted by pictures of them from when they had hair. |
menawati
07.09.13 | the guitarist in Tesla was good cant remember his name, nice list |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | I used to play in a hair metal cover band and one of our singers (we had 2 really good ones) used to SWEAR by Europe's Wings of Tomorrow, but I never could get into it.
...yes I was in a hair metal cover band. I'm not proud of it...much. |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | Tesla was Hannon and Skeoch. Hannon was the shredder and Skeoch was a more bluesy player. |
JamieTwort
07.09.13 | Hannon and Skeotch were great.
My top 5 would probably be
Lynch
Aldrich
Vito
Nuno
Hannon/Skeoch (both rule, can't really choose between them) |
menawati
07.09.13 | id forgotten all about Ratt (no 7), they came up with some killer riffs |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | I've never been a huge fan of Lynch. Dunno why. |
JamieTwort
07.09.13 | Lynch is one of the better shredders imo. I much prefer his playing to Vai's or Satriani's that's for sure. |
grish
07.09.13 | Round and round
With love we'll find a way,
Just give it time |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | Round and round
What comes around goes around
I'l tell you whyyy
Lynch can certainly play and has a unique sense of note selection, but I've always found Beach and definitely Nuno to be more aesthetically pleasing.
And you can't argue with Gilbert's chops. He's up there with Malmsteen and Petrucci in terms of just raw technical ability. |
Trebor.
07.09.13 | Hair *Rock sucks |
Mister Twister
07.09.13 | Quick, add Dime to the list before KILL finds it.
He technically counted. |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | TBH I don't think Diamond would make the list. |
Mister Twister
07.09.13 | Dimebag Darrell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-wiHqEgq8o |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | Diamond Darrell. |
Mister Twister
07.09.13 | Right, I forgot that he went by Diamond back then.
But you even said that Tracii Guns isn't all that good, and is only there because he's involved with so many artists. |
MrSirLordGentleman
07.09.13 | Randy Rhoads can be considered a hair-metal guitarist and he's the best 80's guitarist so... |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | Yeah, pretty much. But the scene was so saturated with amazing guitarists that I don't think he'd be able to make Top 10. By the time he was Dimebag he had unique sound, but when he was Diamond I don't think he could go toe to toe with a lot of guys who were around. |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | Ha! I think Quiet Riot were just a straight up metal band when Rhoads was in it. It's only after he left that they got all poppy. |
MrSirLordGentleman
07.09.13 | certainly, a good argument |
MikeC26
07.09.13 | 3 is probably Vai's best work |
DominionMM1
07.09.13 | how did i know this was a sitar list |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | I think working as DLR's backup forced young Vai to be much more focused than his later efforts, even if his chops would improve later. |
SitarHero
07.09.13 | @Dominion: Cos' I am the hero that Sputnik needs, but not the one that it wants. :D |
mandan
12.13.13 | Cool list. |
Judio!
12.13.13 | Diamond Darrel of Pantera's Metal Magic.
Yeah, even typing that makes me laugh, but Dimebag kicked ass back in the glam days and he's kicking
ass upstairs. |
Davil667
12.16.13 | Great list! 1 to 4 are all fantastic guitar players. Among the best for sure. For me it's Paul=1, Nuno=2, Eddie=3, Steve=4. I' a bit surprised you say Nuno is not the most technical though ;) |
JamieTwort
12.16.13 | Fuck Steve Vai. |
TheSpirit
12.16.13 | Mick Mars? Not the most technical , but easily has one of the most distinctive sounds of that era |
qiblas
12.16.13 | Dude where is:
Cinderella
Slaughter
Great White
Sisters of Mercy
Vixen
Autograph
|
rockandmetaljunkie
12.16.13 | lol, 1 is not hair matal |
rockandmetaljunkie
12.16.13 | hahaha, Fuck Steve Vai [2] |
Davil667
12.17.13 | Vai is very one-dimensional but Passion & Warfare is still amazing. It's the only Vai album that's really outstanding imo. |
SitarHero
12.17.13 | "lol, 1 is not hair matal"
That's like saying Sabbath isn't really heavy matal. |
