It's long but a worthwhile read. |

05.09.13 | Cool list. My favorites are probably Drop Dead Legs (which is missing here) and Eruption |
SitarHero
05.09.13 | Too few good stripper anthems being written these days if you ask me. |

SitarHero
05.09.13 | All awesome songs. Just didn't quite make it to my top 20. Beautiful Girls would probably be 21 actually. |

05.09.13 | I remember once being a bigger fan of Hagar than DLR. For the life of me I can't remember why... |
JamieTwort
05.09.13 | Somebody Get Me a Doctor and Fools would be near the top of my list. Surprised to see neither of them on here. |
KjSwantko
05.09.13 | Dat bridge in Somebody Get Me where Eddie is doing the volume swells is classic. Riff in that song rules too. I would agree with that Jamie. |
DinosaurJones
05.09.13 | I always liked the DLR/Hagar - Coke/Pepsi comparison. I think it was Chris Jericho on VH1's "I Love the 80s" or something...
Van Halen with David Lee Roth was like Coca-Cola. Everyone likes Coca-Cola. It's refreshing, it's there for if you want to have a good time, and it's just something that's pretty much synonymous with fun. Then you have Van Halen with Sammy Hagar. Sammy Hagar is like Pepsi. A lot of people like Pepsi too. It's very similar to Coke, but it's a little bit sweeter. And Sammy was a little bit sweeter than Diamond Dave, with songs like "When It's Love." And you know, some people like the sweetness of Pepsi a little more than they like Coke, but most people will settle for either. And then there was Gary Cherone. Gary Cherone was like RC Cola. A cheap knock-off that no one cares about. |

05.09.13 | Nifty analogy |
SitarHero
05.09.13 | Lol! That's a great analogy. |

05.09.13 | no fuck you Gary Cherone rules and he will always rule |
JamieTwort
05.09.13 | Cherone ruled in Extreme. |
omnipanzer
05.09.13 | Why would anyone dismiss them?
Initial incarnation of VH rock. |
SitarHero
05.09.13 | I've never been a big fan of Cherone, even though I like Extreme. I don't think he was AS bad as people say he was in VH, but he was never particularly good at anything either. |
sumyunguy
05.09.13 | What pisses me off is when pretty much everybody (including most of this site) completely dismisses the Van Hagar era. If you prefer the Roth era that's perfectly fine, but to call Hagar an idiot and say that the four albums with him aren't worth listening to is called being deaf. Hagar indisputably has a better voice than Roth (I mean pure singing ability) and his era had some of the best constructed and most listenable songs in their entire catalog. I whole-heartedly believe that the best of the Hagar era easily stands up to the best of the Roth era. Bam. |
DinosaurJones
05.09.13 | Dreams is a song synonymous with my childhood... because it plays at the end of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers movie (with Ivan Ooze) |
JamieTwort
05.09.13 | 5150 and F.U.C.K. are both excellent albums but I definitely prefer the Roth era overall. |
SitarHero
05.09.13 | I agree about Hagar being a better singer than Roth, but Roth's appeal was in him being a larger than life entertainer more so than a technical singer. Also Van Hagar was a fair bit softer and sappier than Van DLR. They had more mature songs, but none of the kind of crackpot energy and vitality that early VH did, which was a huge part of their appeal compared to hard rock and metal bands of their generation. |

06.21.13 | "Dreams is a song synonymous with my childhood... because it plays at the end of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers movie (with Ivan Ooze)"
HA! Yeah it does! In retrospect it was probably the best thing about the movie...apart from green bikini warrior lady who looked like she was gonna bone Tommy. |
DinosaurJones
06.21.13 | That movie had the best intro: Skydiving to "Higher Ground" by RHCP
And the best ending: Fireworks and "Dreams" by Van Halen |
SitarHero
06.22.13 | Hmmm, I don't remember the intro. I haven't seen the movie in forever, and it sure hasn't aged well. |
JaySpiral
06.22.13 | Jamie's Cryin' and Hot For Teacher are the shit. |
pesbiros
06.22.13 | cool list but where's atomic punk?? |
mandan
06.22.13 | List needs less Hagar Era and more Roth Era imo.
Rules tho. I like the Hagar Era, but I simply think the Roth Era is better. |

06.22.13 | needs more atomic punk agreed |

07.10.13 | This entire list is pretty interchangeable depending on my mood honestly. And DLR era is defn more fun. |
