10//2009

My top ten songs of '09. Enjoy.
1Between The Buried and Me
Swim To The Moon

I honestly cannot find a flaw with this song. It's never too technical for technicality's sake, and over
it's near third of an hour runtime, it never gets boring or stale. Truly an artistic feat in the stagnant
genre of prog metal.
2Scale the Summit
The Great Plains

Something about this song just makes it epic to me. The first half being flowing guitar sweeps, and
the second being tranquil tapping melodies, the song just flows beginning to end with ease and
precision.
3The Number Twelve Looks Like You
The Garden's All Nighters

The best track in The Number Twelve's discography, save for MAYBE Civeta Dei. Incorporating grind,
jazz, and... samba? Into one track is craziness. The fact that it works is pure lunacy.
4Brand New
Vices

Not only the song everyone thought that Brand New would never make, but the song that possibly
defines "Daisy" as a whole: Unexpected, frantic, catchy, and fucking erratic.
5Emery
Cutthroat Collapse

For the sole purpose that this was the first track off of "In Shallow Seas We Sail" to be released, and
it marked a VERY welcome return to form for Emery after an absolutely dreadful performance on "I'm
Only A Man."
6Every Time I Die
Turtles All The Way Down

My favorite off of their best album yet, and Pete Wentz is actually a complete badass on this track.
7BATS
Higgs Boson Particle

Little more than an intro track, but it shows what BATS are all about: Weird static riffs, dual vocals,
cowbell, and SCIENCE.
8Anaal Nathrakh
Satanarchrist

This puts every shitty black metal band to shame, and brings teh epic metuhlz. In a good way.
9Gallows
Crucifucks

The title alone is enough to win it a spot here, but the fact that the song is pure aggression and fury
helps.
10Knives Exchanging Hands
A Box Full Of Legos And Good Intentions

Not only an amazing showcase of what deathcore should be, (fuck you WVAskittle) but also a great
way to end a great band's career. Be sure to check out the cover of Deftones' "Hexagram" as the
hidden track here.
