BallsToTheWall 06.02.09	Some of the best melo death around. I used to think they were just ok but now starting to love them. Not pansy like In Flames and Dark Tranquillity but heavy and catchy with the right amount of melody with out being pussified or purple.

xavia1609 06.02.09	I find most straight death metal either focuses on bein as heavy as possible or as technical as possible...I like Melodic Death Metal cause yeah there heavy and technical but they focus on making the songs good too.

FadeToBlack 06.02.09	I used to think the same, but if you find the right bands, 'pure' death metal is nothing like that at all. The later Death albums, and most Swedish death metal, for example.
xavia1609 06.02.09	hmmmmmmmi always felt that the later death albums were more progressive metal than death metal...although i do agree they are very good (symbolic being my favourite) but what do you mean by Swedish Death Metal? When you say Swedish Death Metal I automatically think to Gothenburg like At the Gates,Dark Tranquility and In Flames, but please suggest some bands if you think id like them

FadeToBlack 06.02.09	Yep you'll like Insomnium (Above The Weeping World) and Hypocrisy (Virus). Check out Symbolic by Death as well if you haven't already; it's not too heavy, and a good starting point to get into the heavier death genres
BallsToTheWall 06.02.09	Swedish death metal: Nihilist + Carnage = going on to form Dismember, Unleashed, and Arch Enemy. Merciless thrown in for good emasure, old school, grim and originally signed onto Euronymous's Deathlike Silence Productions. Early Therion is prime Swede death, Unanimated, Grave, Amon Amarth, Necrophobic, Ceremonial Oath, and Tribulation/Souldrainer/ Torchbeaer for new school.

Death metal is supposed to be a harsher form of music as found on genre defining classics such as Scream Bloody Gore, Altars of Madness and Severed Survival where as “The Jester Race” and the like trade in this grittiness and brutality for a certain level of accessibility. I only own one Into Eternity album but can safely say it’s one of the worst pieces of music I’ve ever had the experience of listening to. Probably the worst of all on this list although I stray clear from TBDM, Arch Enemy, In Flames and COB as well. Xavia1609, between amazon and all the metal distros on the net there should be no problem in getting the aforementioned recs. for reasonable prices. Commercial chain stores generally have shitty selections and are way overpriced to begin with.

ThusSpokeZarathustra 06.02.09	I live in Canada as well and hardly ever pay over $15 US / $18 CAN for a metal album total. Lots of more well-known albums you can get from amazon.ca for like $10 or so CAN and lots of sellers have shipping for $5 or less. There are lots of distros online that don’t charge more than a couple dollars US for shipping either, redstream.org doesn’t charge anything at all.
xavia1609 06.02.09	really? do you live in the east end? if not ill check out redstream.org....either way about the into eternity album id check out their later albums like scattering the ashes...i didnt enjoy there earlier stuff before they replaced there singer and drummer.....stu block is an amazing vocalist and even when confronted with people who dont like this band they usually still praise the singer quite a bit.

xavia1609 06.02.09	yeah its fine no prob....doesnt ever work to try and change others opinions but id give there newer stuff a listen before making an informed opinion on them. Telling from your profile you like yourself some black metal anyway and into eternity's only thing in common with black metal is well.....blast beats maybe and even thats up for debate.Thanks for the links ill check out the sites and see if they have some of the stuff ive been looking for.

Greggers 06.02.09	If you love Opeth then try Agalloch and Gwynbleidd. And for Slayer try any good 80's thrash band; check out some of Kreator's stuff, its pure thrash in a similar 'Slayer' style. Good list btw, and 123 what people have said about Dark Tranquility and At the Gates, you'd love them.

Actually the only time I’ve ever been ripped off is while directly trading with other people a couple times.. Just thought I’d add that since I was sort of cautious about ordering from sites at one time..
