05.30.09 | you need Numb. Wasted Sky and Blood Meridian, now.
erm, Acumen Nation - Psycho The Rapist should satisfy you
if you lacking of the Ministry front, get The Land of Rape and Honey and The Mind Is A Terrible Thing to Taste
KMFDM - everything from Naive to Symbols
Pigface - Gub for a collaboration between every industrial metal artist under the sun.
also, it's not quite metal but I would try the awesomeness that is Foetus - Thaw for a noisy, abrasive take on pop music.

05.30.09 | Check out most of the Psyclon Nine discography. They're a sick aggro-tech/industrial project. |
Metalstyles
05.30.09 | CROSSBREED - NEW SLAVE NATION (if you don't get that album than you are simply a douche, especially regarding the fact I rec'd you Ventana and Deathstars)
other stuff:
Dope - Felons And Revolutionaries (industrial rock)
Pain - Psalms Of Extinction (heavy industrial metal)
Scum Of the Earth - Blah...Blah...Blah...Love Songs For The New Millenium (see above)
Sixstitch - The Collapse Of American Dreams (not exactly industrial, more like alternative metal with break beat electronics but it fucking slays, you have read my review on this on btw)
Sub Dub Micromachine - Auferstanden! (german industrial metal)
Apartment 26 ( just pure industrial rock)
T3chn0ph0b1a - Grave new world (industrial/techno metal)
Turmion Katilot - Hoitovirhe (read my review bitch)
Celldweller - Celldweller ( industrial rock with some DnB elements)
Helltrash, although they have yet to release a full LP
The Kovenant - Seti
Also from Willie's list I would surely rec you Pitchshifter, Samael, Spineshank, Sybreed and maybe Acumen Nation (I dislike AC a bit though)
All in all, Willie knows all sorts of industrial while I am more into the heavier stuff. If you want to expand your knowledge about the mellower and more laid back industrial than talk with Willie, if you want more Industrial METAL than take a look at my rec's hahaha. |

05.30.09 | I definitely like most of the music you've gotten me into so I'll check it out.
Don't much like Dope, already got Samael, familiar with Spineshank and I hate Sybreed and Acumen Nation. |
Metalstyles
05.30.09 | as for Dope, that album is very different from their other works, it really has got that industrialized feel to it. If you don't like Sybreed, than don't look into The Kovenant, these two bands are really similar. Also i somewhat doubt you'll like Celldweller (probably not enough metal for you haha) but the rest are all worth checking out. |

05.30.09 | I just had a problem with Sybreed's vocals. |
Metalstyles
05.30.09 | hmm..
well you can always youtube The Kovenant if you want to know how they sound, since it has really been a long time since I last listened to them and i actually can't remember the vocals all that well lol |

05.30.09 | yah Kovenant sucks, anyways Pain sounds ok. |
Metalstyles
05.30.09 | well if you are into the really heavy industrial then from my rec's definitely check out Scum Of The Earth, Sixstitch, Crossbreed and possibly Turmion Katilot. Also you might like a band called Fear Factory, they were one of the innovators of heavy industrial. But if we leave out The Kovenant and Celldweller than all my other rec's are nice too |

05.30.09 | I just wish there were a hundred Ventana clone bands with a whole bunch of material. |

05.30.09 | then why don't you look into that Crossbreed album? That and Ventana are really really similar |

05.30.09 | It was too vocally and not enough RAWR AMERICA IS BURNING AND I NEED TO CURSE NOW! |

05.30.09 | did you check out songs "Beg (for this)", "Saints Of Grey" and "New Slave Nation"? For me these are heavy industrial classics |
Zip
05.30.09 | I'll get to that someday. In the mean time, review something that no ones ever heard of so I can become irrevocably attracted to it. It worked the last three times. |
Metalstyles
05.30.09 | well I might review some totally unknow finnish melo death/death metal band Diablo at some point. Also from my list I may very well do Apartment 26 who is really unknown, but I don't know if you would like them. Also Scum Of the Earth is in my catalogue of need -to-do-reviews and you might like them pretty much tbh.
Back to the industrial point though, Sixstitch has the RAWR AMERICA IS BURNING AND I NEED TO CURSE NOW! attitude and they are quite aggressive and they use 3 guitarists whom one is on bass + Fear Factory are half death metal so you should like them both. |
ThusSpokeZarathustra
05.30.09 | Dope is soulless mainstream nu-metal garbage. The Kovenant and the later Pitchshifter material is shit as well. |
Metalstyles
05.30.09 | aww someone has never heard Dope's first I guess since it had sufficiently industrial instruments to call it industrial rock and it was far from mainstream. I don't particularly like Kovenant but they aren't that bad and i do agree with you on Pitchshifter |
Metalstyles
05.30.09 | industrial elements*, sorry |
ThusSpokeZarathustra
05.30.09 | I most certainly have. At one point in my life I was actually a big nu-metal fan, everything from Dope to Static-X to Mudvayne.
No, admittedly not popular compared to a lot of the stuff you like judging from your ratings list that’s for sure. But they were on Epic Records, they got played on MTV, to me this makes them at least somewhat mainstream.
Bands don't always just fit one description. Dope have all the nu-metal traits along with their industrialized sound - groovy power chords built around verse-chorus-verse structures, nu-metallish vocals, angsty lyrics.. they were even featured in about every nu-metal magazine at the time..

Metalstyles
05.31.09 | yaah dude I do agree with you on the fact that albums like Life and Group Therapy were full out nu metal and that albums like No Regrets and American Apathy had nu metal influences and I also do enjoy mainstream bands like P.O.D, Papa Roach, In Flames, Disturbed, Korn and a few others, but as far as I remember, nothing from Felons And Revolutionaries was never played on MTV. Also their sound may be pretty simplistic, but Dope is definitely not like any other band out there and as far as I understand, they are definitely not mainstream. Mastodon also got played on MTV, does that make them mainstream? I think not |
ThusSpokeZarathustra
05.31.09 | Mastodon have gained exposure in the most mainstream of magazines, have been on many major touring bills and have gained a wide audience outside of the metal underground so yes, I would say that they are at least somewhat mainstream in this sense (although I’m not sure if they’re on a major record label at the moment).
On the other hand I do think their music is less accessible and still follows a less popular style than F&R did for its time. And yes, F&R did sell quite a bit, and my guess would be most of these sales would have been to nu-metal fans.
You could go down a checklist and F&R would have many of the characteristics.
I recall seeing the video of “Everything Sucks” albeit not on heavy rotation.
But once again “mainstream” and “underground” are always relative terms.

Metalstyles
06.01.09 | yaah i agree that mainstream and underground are somewhat relative terms. You raise a fair point about the fact that Felons and Revolutionaries is more accessible. Yes it has sold over 200,000 copies but you have to notice the fact that it was releaed 10 years ago, so it has had a lot of time to gather these numbers while Mastodon albums have already gathered about 150,000 each in a lot less time. I also said that F&R has some nu metal influences, especially in the guitar lines, but all in all it is an industrial rock album. There is a video for "Everything Sucks" but it was hardly played on any commercially big channels (like MTV or ZTV). All in all though, mainstream is the kind of music that is always the same, same kind of songs/music by different artists. It means that one artist doesn't really differ from the other and they make music for the sake of money not for their own pleasure. Well, while Dope definitely played the music that was a bit popular at that time, they were definitely not just another nu metal band, their music and own style was different from the other nu metal bands and they are still strongly distinguishable from all the other nu metal bands. |
ThusSpokeZarathustra
06.01.09 | As I said before I think this does still have enough of the necessary traits to qualify for the nu-metal tag but perhaps my definition is just broader than yours. I wouldn’t argue that F&R could be considered industrial rock as well, as lots of the time bands don’t fit one single description. I was a fan of Orgy’s Candyass album when it came out along with the hit Blue Monday cover and I believe an album such as this one could be considered either industrial rock or nu-metal also. A band like Staind is very close to the alternative rock label but still nu-metal. I think that a big reason for this is that modern rock and nu-metal are built around similar song structures and are somewhat close in sound and style to begin with.
Yeah, I agree due to the industrial sound this album was less generic than the countless Korn imitators, however I still do think with the image, lyrics etc. it appealed to the same general fan base for reasons given above.
Anyways I think I’ve pretty much said my piece here, in the end I suppose we’ll just have to agree to disagree on some things.
