Best Albums Of 2012

I found 2012 to be a pretty good year in music. I had difficulty picking 10 main albums and ended up adding a compilation and live release as well. There were several notable albums I left off the list such as the new Nile, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, God Forbid, Tenacious D and Steve Vai. I did like the new Between the Buried and Me but it doesn't resonate as much as their previous albums. Had the same problem with the new Coheed & Cambria album. It just doesn't carry the weight of some of their best releases. Nightwish's Imaginaerum was a disappointment. It did get a little better the more I listened to it but I think it's a mess. As for EP's, Agalloch and Pelican released some good work and I'm looking forward to their next full lengths. Without further ado, here's my list:
1Storm Corrosion
Storm Corrosion

Brilliant. Really love it from start to finish. I didn't know what to expect but I was obviously quite happy with the results.
2Rush
Clockwork Angels

Their best album in years, probably decades. The more I listen to it the better it gets.
3Katatonia
Dead End Kings

It took awhile to click but once it did I found this to be one of Katatonia's best albums. There isn't a single bad track on here.
4Neurosis
Honor Found in Decay

Generally it takes awhile for a Neurosis release to sink in and sometimes they frankly never do. But their best releases Through Silver in Blood and Eye of Every Storm to name a few, get to me emotionally and never leave my head. Honor Found in Decay joins some of the bands best work. I was absolutely stunned from beginning to end and also found this to be one of their most accessible releases yet.
6Ulver
Childhood's End

Ulver nailed this cover's album. I'm usually not too fond of cover albums but this one works because Ulver manages to make it sound like its coming from the 60's. Plus all the songs are unique and several I'd never even heard of prior to listening to this.
7The Mars Volta
Noctourniquet

Another great Mars Volta album. I prefer this over their past couple of albums.
8Meshuggah
Koloss

This is HEAVY. Meshuggah dominates once again with Koloss.
9Old Man Gloom
No

Old Man Gloom is back after a very lengthy hiatus. Really solid album with some of their most spacey and unique work yet.
10As I Lay Dying
Awakened

Another very consistent As I Lay Dying album. Maybe not as good as Powerless Rise but they set a pretty high bar with that release.
11ISIS
Temporal

Great to have another ISIS release even if it's mainly a bunch of demos and a couple rarities. They are still one of the greatest bands ever.
