The '59 Sound References
This are some of the NICER IONIZER references I've spotted on this NICER IONIZER album. I may be missing some so feel free to point them out. |
1 | Great Expectations
It's based on the novel of the same name written by Charles Dickens. |
2 | Great Expectations
"It's funny how the night moves. Humming a song from 1962." This lines appear on the song "Night Moves" by Bob Seger. |
3 | The '59 Sound
Named after the year when a plane crash caused the death of music icons Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. |
4 | Old White Lincoln
"Baby darling, we will be, in the cold cold ground." I think it's a reference to the Tom Waits song "Cold Cold Ground". |
5 | High Lonesome
"And Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand, I always kinda sorta wished I looked like Elvis." Obviously inspired by the Counting Crows sonf "Round Here". |
6 | High Lonesome
"And at night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet." The pretty good song referenced here is "I'm On Fire" by Bruce Springsteen (Maybe you know the rest). |
7 | Film Noir
"Broken Bones Matilda left a note and a rose". I think this may be about a book called "Matilda Bone", but I can't tell (to be honest I just googled this one, hehe). |
8 | Film Noir
"And your sugar and spice, and everything nice." This may be based on that nursery rhyme called "What Are Little Boys Made Of?", James Brown's "I Feel Good" or The Powerpuff Girls. |
9 | Film Noir
"You got Monroe hips". This may be just referencing Marylin Monroe, but I would bet he was inspired by the song "Hold On" by Tom Waits. |
10 | Miles Davis And The Cool
Miles Davis=Cool. And all that jazz. |
11 | Miles Davis And The Cool
"Poor mister pitiful, I can't turn you loose." There's a song called "Mr. Pitiful" by none others than Otis Redding and Steve Cropper. (God save Otis Redding because I know he's never gone). |
12 | The Patient Ferris Wheel
"Not tonight, not tonight. Honey I'm on fire" May be about the same Bruce Springsteen song. |
13 | Casanova, Baby!
"And dance upon the architecture" I think this references that quote by Frank Zappa: "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture". Hehe, I like that quote. |
14 | Casanova, Baby!
"Mustang Sally?s left the building." That song called "Mustang Sally". |
15 | Even Cowgirls Get The Blues
There's apparently a book of the same name. |
16 | Even Cowgirls Get The Blues
"I haven't seen Sandy, angry Johnny, or Mary." Their old album had a song called "Angry Johnny and the Radio". |
17 | Even Cowgirls Get The Blues
"I still love Tom Petty songs." References Tom Petty. Pretty obvious one. |
18 | Meet Me By The River's Edge
"No surrender, my Bobby Jean." References two songs of the Bruce Springsteen's album "Born in the U.S.A." |
19 | Meet Me By The River's Edge
"You wore Audrey Hepburn pearls." The actress Audrey Hepburn. |
20 | Here's Looking At You, Kid
The title comes from a quote in "Casablanca". |
