04.12.13 | Can't help you but I'm reading Lord of the Rings right now for the first time and I'm in love. |
Oneironaut
04.12.13 | Awesome! I don't know if you're including The Hobbit while reading the trilogy but I recommend that book as well for sure. |
Strider
04.12.13 | Can't help you sorry.
I can read comic books on my computer but actual books, hell no. If you're looking for something to read I'd suggest the Game of Thrones series if you haven't already started them. Or you could read The Royal Assassins series from Robin Hobb. both series aren't new, but are fantasy and should have you occupied for a while. |
Calc
04.12.13 | "Still not better than an actual book but hey.. what can ya do?"
oo i know!! buy the actual book rather than downloading them!!

04.12.13 | Fuck that, dude. Buy nothing that you haven't already experienced.
If you like it, buy it. |

04.12.13 | same as with anything else just gear it to e-books

Uranium
04.12.13 | Idk I can't get with the E-book thang. I have to physically hold a book. Also, it makes my personal library look boss. |

04.12.13 | Thanks for the recs! I’ve already read the 5 books George R.R Martin has out, waiting for the last 2 to finish Game of Thrones (which I own in paperback Calc ;) )! I’ll check the Royal Assassins series for sure Strider, cheers.
I would buy the books if they were available here man, believe me. I’ve got a pretty solid library of books I’ve bought, but the selection is extremely limited here in the Philippines. You see all the series–movie tie in’s, as well as classics but barely any contemporary literature. Books are in a strange place – I feel like hard cover books are kinda like vinyls, and I can see people buying these for fav books/having a physical, durable copy... but when they release the cheaper paperbacks, I think they should couple it with a digital release or ebook download.

04.12.13 | but yea I feel like a dick for torrenting books :/ |
Uranium
04.12.13 | Oh ya but that is totally understandable in a country where it's hard to access them |
Oneironaut
04.12.13 | yea, I guess there's no justifying it. I just fucking love to read man, can't help it i'm a pirate! Look at me, trying to blame my geographic location.. I guess I could wait. I do buy them off amazon straight to the kindle when I've got the cash/I really want to read something.
Uranium, i was a nay sayer on the kindle, and it definitely has its drawbacks, but it has that convenience factor which all devices these days use to win you over to the dark, techy side. I try and rebel and stay a ludite, but it helps me read more, gets me pumped to churn through books, so for me it's pretty nice. but i'll always prefer a physical copy, especially of a book I love. No need to charge paper |

04.12.13 | Philip Pullman - His Dark Materials
James Clavell - The Asian Saga |
Uranium
04.12.13 | Yeah i'm sure i'll get sucked in one day when they stop printing books. |

04.12.13 | Uranium - that makes me sad :(

04.12.13 | I own almost 1000 books. My book collection fills three enormous bins, and weighs something like 600lbs total. It's an enormous pain in the ass to transport when I move, which happens very frequently. At this point it makes alot more sense for me to use e-books. I can carry that whole library in my phone! It was reluctant to transition at first, but it's definitely worth it. |
Uranium
04.12.13 | I've read Shogun and King Rat and those two books by Clavell are awesome. I heard Tai Pan and Noble House are good so maybe Tai Pan next. |
Strider
04.12.13 | "Philip Pullman - His Dark Materials'
Definitely in my top 10 book series |

04.12.13 | "I've read Shogun and King Rat and those two books by Clavell are awesome. I heard Tai Pan and Noble House are good so maybe Tai Pan next."
I recommend reading them in one of two ways. Chronologically by when they take place or by when they were written. |

04.12.13 | Torrenting? Huge books take up like 200 kb. Look up anything you want and .epub. You're almost guaranteed to find it on one of the first sites on a google search. |
Oneironaut
04.12.13 | ...*facepalm*
I don't know why I didn't just google search like that. sweetness! there was a bad ass on piratebay
who would upload man booker prize winners and everything was in great qual and very complete (info
all correct too) so I dug that semblance of quality control I got from his uploads.
looks like I've gotta see why Clavell's all about! thanks for the tips and books recs guys.
Strider - I made the terrible mistake of watching the Golden Compass before reading the series. I'll
give it another go but the movie put me off |
Uranium
04.12.13 | I want to read A Song of Fire and Ice next but I have to finish Atlas Shrugged first |

04.12.13 | "Strider - I made the terrible mistake of watching the Golden Compass before reading the series. I'll give it another go but the movie put me off"
I can see why it did, but frankly, I really appreciated the effort they made to make the world look almost exactly like how I imagined it would be. So I ca't say it was a bad movie. There as just one aspect that really bothered me, but I guess you'll realize it when you get to reading them |

04.12.13 | try a library i hear those places still have some books left |

04.12.13 | IronSquid - Thanks man, I'll be sure to check it out.
Ahh all the library jibes. I'm actually a big enough nerd to consider going to a public library, but they really aren't available here/easy to find (at least anywhere near me). I'll try and track some down but I'm pretty sure I would've known about/tried them. |
Keyblade
04.12.13 | "Game of Thrones Series"
it's called A Song of Ice and Fire ugh
btw OP check out Dune. just finished reading it for the umpteenth time yesterday and it is nothing short of a breathtaking masterpiece. no hyperbole |

04.12.13 | So many uppity people! Sticklers for details. A Song of Fire and Ice * (wasn't sure everyone would get the reference)
Snox - I'm at peace with me being a dick, or rather I'm fully aware. I buy real books like 95% of the time. It just sucks with the selection is so limited - I'll have to order books across the world to read something I'm not even sure I'll want to purchase? Show of hands who torrents music, and how that's different? And if its the old 'record label barely gives a cut to artists of record sales,' i feel like that's not a good enough reason to differentiate the two versions of piracy. if its a moral issue, I can't be the only asshole put there. But thanks for putting it so black and white.. |

04.12.13 | Books are really a lot harder to find downloads for. I really think the best way is to just Google search "[author] [title] [format, e.g. PDF]" and try your chances.
Comics are super easy to find but texts like novels are less so. But give every search result you find a chance, because you might find what you're looking for on even the most dodgy of sites. I once found good copies of Proust's "In Search of Lost Time" on some really obscure, shitty file-sharing place. |
Oneironaut
04.12.13 | CoolNewGuy - any site that has fast downloads for a moral compass?|
dimsim- thanks man, I get put off by dodgy links/sites but I'll wade through the sketch if there's a book I really can't find. Thanks for the tip |

04.12.13 | No I don't know where to torrent books but finished Perks Of Being A Wallflower in 3 days and already half way through my 2nd go just a few days later. Might be my favorite book, or atleast for right now. |
