| Top 10 Of '08.
Ten albums that I enjoyed throughout 2008. | 1 | | Cynic Traced In Air
Having never really payed that much attention to Focus, and listening to this, I was surprised. How can a band be so good? It has everything a good metal album needs; technicality, melody and is extremely catchy. | 2 | | Meshuggah ObZen
I return to form from the metal giants. Evolving from the more standard Nothing album, and a more energetic performance, no doubt due to Haake's return beind the kit. And with songs such as Bleed, Dancers To A Discordant System and the title track, how could you go wrong with this album. | 3 | | Opeth Watershed
Taking a while for the greatness of this album to sink in, this album was out of the running for this list for a long time. Though not overly technical or melodic, I realised; this is still the same Opeth I love. | 4 | | Burst Lazarus Bird
The situation for listening to this album needs to be perfect, it cannot be listened to at any time, which is not necessarily a bad thing. For when you finally listen to this album, it is magical. Slow, heavy and sludgy sections drew me in, and the acoustic and quiet sections made me stick around. An excellent release. | 5 | | Protest The Hero Fortress
Musical wankery can only get you so far. In this case, it was far enough. Even though this album is a little self-indulgent at times, I simply cannot pass up a good listen. The vocals are a little irritating at times, however. | 6 | | Between the Buried and Me Colors_Live
My favourite album of 2007 gone live, and recreated perfectly. What more needs to be said. | 7 | | Have A Nice Life Deathconciousness
Adding this album to my collection at the start of the year, I dismissed it pretty much instantly. Just wasn't what I was looking for, I guess. However, it started to get more plays towards the end of the year, and thus, has ended up on this list. The sheer epicness, darkness, and and minimalistic qualities of the album makes it a worthwhile find. | 8 | | Boris Smile
Those crazy Japs have done it again. Always changing between releases, you never know what to expect, except for goodness. | 9 | | Amon Amarth Twilight Of The Thunder God
The first thing I have heard from these guys, and I'm very impressed. Furious metal, made by Vikings, by far the most manly thing ever. | 10 | | Vessels White Fields and Open Devices
Finally, post-rock that I can actually listen to for more than 20 seconds without dosing off. It's the somewhat technical nature of this release that has me staying awake, and overall, is just a good album to chill out to. | |
monorail
12.20.08 | what a list maker dude. | Greggers
03.03.09 | Nice list, 1, 2, 3, 5 and 9 are amazing albums :D | Mendigo
03.03.09 | great list yeah, only thing I still don't get the fuss about is 5 (haven't heard 9&10 though).
btw, I've seen Burst live yesterday - and now I'd probably put 4 in my Top 30 as well. |
