| 5 Worst Albums Of 2008
The worst albums of 2008... Enough said. | 1 | | I Set My Friends On Fire You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter
This is a perfect example of everything that is wrong with the emo/punk music scene. Cheesy vocal synths, awful (read: so fucking terrible) lyrics, trite vocal deliveries, a complete reliance on unneeded breakdowns... This is really just the biggest piece of shit I've had the displeasure of listening to. | 2 | | Hawthorne Heights Fragile Futures
Hawthorne Heights has never been an engaging band. Back in 2004 when thousands, nay millions of sixteen-year-olds cried their eyes out while screaming "cut my wrists and black my eyes" they were still too generic to be taken seriously, but they had some immediacy to their music. Nearly half a decade and a tragic death later, they haven't really improved, and without Casey Calvert's identifying scream they have... nothing. At best, this is background music. | 3 | | No Use For a Name Feel Good Record of the Year
I realize this has received fairly good reviews, but I thought this was just plain boring. I'm usually a fan of FAT's output, but I've been steady disappointed by everything I've picked from the label this year (sans Dead to Me... fucking genius). | 4 | | Hit the Lights Skip School, Start Fights
I know my biggest complaint about these albums is that they have been generic, and this is that to a T. Granted they aren't riding the fashion-core wave of bands like The Academy Is..., Fall Out Boy, and The Audition, but it still has no definition. It's like a disc of New Found Glory b-sides, but without the skill or charm. I will give props for the song "Statues" though. It is the lone gem on the album. | 5 | | The Offspring Rise & Fall, Rage & Grace
After a five year wait we get... crap. Again, not as much bad as it is boring. Nothing has the immediacy of anything off of Smash, Ixnay, Americana or even Conspiracy. Songs like "Trust in You" are not bad, but just sound like they're cannibalizing their past. Others like "A Lot Like Me" just shouldn't have been written at all... | |

12.28.08 | People honestly though Casey Calvert was the *highpoint* of Hawthorne Heights? I thought the scream/repeat were always the absolute worst parts of their songs (which is saying something) and for years never knew it was someone other than the lead singer himself. I really don't see what the appeal was there.
Also, R&F, R&G was great. | ClearTheLane
