| Prog, yours to discover pt 2
Here is the suite of my prog selection found on Prog; Yours to Discover. It's always some albums from my 5s to my 4s with less than 50 votes. No classic band/albums and no heavy or jazz laden. Not in particular order. | 1 | | Il Volo (ITA) Il Volo / Essere O Non Essere?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAI1QuZjz8Y
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dxa2oZ6parw
1981, complete compilation of both albums Il Volo (1974) and Essere O Non Essere (1975). Symphonic prog with good interplay between guitar and keys. Therefore band got two keyboardists and two guitarists, which gives another bonus. | 2 | | Peter Hammill The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdhQsoJmln8&list=OLAK5uy_lU1C16Ra75zeX4TPk2A3NZJNdnS8H5gsA
1974 Album is the one that sounds like Van Der Graaf Generator the most. | 3 | | Fatal Fusion The Ancient Tale
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2v4jjBJ3vU
2013 Straight forward, but highly melodic symphonic prog with mellotron all around, and centered around keyboards with energetic guitar layers. It got great choruses with nod and winks to some other bands, namely Kansas and The Beatles. They're doing their own material very well. | 4 | | Campo Di Marte Campo Di Marte
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2HNcAjdu3U
1973 Enthusiastic, tight prog, tight rock, mainly up tempo. Guitar centered with layers of organ and mellotron. Use of French Horn and flute. Great vocal harmonies. Don't trust the cover art, this rules. Probably my favorite of the bunch. | 5 | | Unreal City (Italy) Il paese del tramonto
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4crT6aRWwg&list=PLxq0NvHXVd_CcRcdXdbEHWP9skWh5vlVw

2018, Modern prog featuring a multi-instrumentalist. Quirky psychedelic kind of prog with start and stop patterns and eccentric turns. Experimental and Medieval touches. Punchy between two pastoral ambiences. Vocals serve as an instrument. Sophisticated but melodic. Mainly using of mellotrons, organs and many more keys and synths. Kinda Beck on acid making prog.

2020, Influenced by Genesis and Steve Hackett. Phideaux also can be mentioned. Smooth, melodious added of ambitious instrumental segments washed by mellotron. Ordinary drum sounding and playing. Save for it, good musicianship.

04.16.21 | All the same than the list part 1. No classic bands included, and no jazz laden, so it opens the door to modern prog and to a few prog of the 70s. I might do a final part 3 on my way. Feel free to rate those you're listening to. | Divaman
04.16.21 | I know at least a few of these. | temptationFruit
04.16.21 | Now this looks like a great list. Always liked Quella Vecchia Locanda | Jethro42
04.16.21 | @Divaman, there are some that we can find in Friday's contests. Would you rate those you haven't?
@Temptation, try Curved Air if you haven't. Out of the list, you could dig 4, 6, 9, 10, 20, 29 and 32 | zakalwe
04.16.21 | Enjoying the Regal Worm one. | Divaman
04.16.21 | That's a lot of albums, Jethro. Pick me three you think I would like. | Jethro42
04.16.21 | Challenging stuff, adventurous you, zak.
Whoa Diva, hard task for me too. 4, 6 (if you don't mind Italian vox) 9, and 10 for now. Stay tuned for a second chance, if I'm not hitting the target.
Ring Van Mobius released a brand new album which seems solid.
| Divaman
04.18.21 | Here's some interesting news for all prog rock fans. Unbeknownst to me (and apparently the rest of Sputnik), Strawbs released a new LP last December 20, which is apparently being credited as a 2021, album. I just added it to the database. (I found it by accident). | Jethro42
04.18.21 | Ah yes, I totally forgot about that release. I was supposed to add it to the database these days, thanks you did. I have the feeling it sounds like vintage Strawbs music according to the cover art. I'm afraid Cousins vocals lost of its tonus. Will see. | e210013
04.19.21 | Nice to see yours second prog discover list. As happened with the first one, this is also a great and nice prog list. But, as happened with the first part too, there are many names that I'm not familiar with. So, if you can be a bit more speciafic about the following bands, in a short way of course, it would be nice my friend. I'm talking about Fatal Fusion, T2, Ring Van Mobius, Seven Impale, Tusmorke, Regal Worm, 35 Tapes, Code 18, Taproban, McLuhan and Festa Mobile.
Thanks my friend. | Jethro42
04.19.21 | My list is not much visited compared to the other one. This time, list was not featured, that would explain why. How can I serve you, bro? Do you want a wider description of each of the ones you just named?
I think you already know Seven Impale - City Of The Sun, for it was a candidate in a Friday's tourney. I'll try to be more precise with these descriptions, but you can use of my links in order to instantly listen to the music. For now, I have to move out. Be right back later.
| Divaman
04.19.21 | I'm still catching up on the music I bought last week. But as soon as I've done that, I'll start listening the albums you picked out for me. | e210013
04.19.21 | Ok, Jethro. It's true and it's a pity.
If you could do the same you did to me in the first list, it would be nice. | DDDeftoneDDD
04.19.21 | insane list - 28 captured my interest dkwhy XD | Jethro42
04.19.21 | @Divaman, no problem my friend.
28 is a good choice, DDDeftone. Try also both Seven Impale (10). It's full of sax, flute and cello. Also Quella Vecchia Locanda (35) Contains violin and flute. Bubu (22) as well
@e21, will do but meanwhile, you can read my descriptions beside each albums. I don't have time for now. I improved the descriptions of 15 and 29. According to your taste, I urge you to try in that order; Seven Impale (10), Regal Worm (13), Festa Mobile (29) and 35 Tapes (14) Will probably do a better description tomorrow only. | Sowing
04.19.21 | Check The D Project. Super underrated prog rock band. | Jethro42
04.19.21 | Hey Sowing dude, believe it or not, I was to include their last album since I have it to a 4. I haven't listened to it that much so I left it aside. I will correct it. I see you gave their sophomore effort a 4.5. I consider it. I'm following your all time top 100 album list.
Cheers man. | e210013
04.20.21 | Thanks for the tips, Jethro. | e210013
04.20.21 | From what I read, The D Project seems to me very interesting too. I'm going to join it to my list. Thanks Sowing. | EclipseInYourEyes
04.20.21 | reminder to check this list properly later. thanks for creating | Jethro42
04.20.21 | @Eclipse, cheers!
@e21, I'm not forgetting you, my friend. I'm gonna do my write ups beside on a sheet. When I'm done with it, I'll transfer it all here, beside each albums you're in need. | e210013
04.20.21 | No problem brother. I'm not hurry. I've other things to do, meanwhile. Anyway thanks and sorry for the inconvenience. I know that you've many other things to do. | Jethro42
04.20.21 | This time, I've edited my descriptions directly beside each and every albums, so I won't have to give it to you in the comments thread. It's all the same though. You still have all the descriptions of the albums you need. I tried hard to be as clear and precise as I can. If you have any question, don't hesitate. | e210013
04.21.21 | Ok. Thanks bro. | Jethro42
04.21.21 | Like I said, the descriptions are already beside the albums. The best of those you mentioned to me are in order Regal Worm (13), Seven Impale (10), Festa Mobile (29), 35 Tapes (14) and McLuhan (28). | Jethro42
04.22.21 | I've forgotten lots of entries from Friday's tournaments (They passed under my radar). I've added Phoenix Cantafabule to this list. I removed T2 instead, because it's more hard rock and psychedelic than anything. No prog to be found on it. I'll try to put onto a new list of mine the more important entries of these tournaments. To me. 4/5 and more. | Divaman
04.25.21 | OK, I've started listening to the four LPs you rec'd me today. | Jethro42
04.25.21 | Hope you'll find of your interest. If not, I'll try another series of 3 or 4 albums for you. | Divaman
04.27.21 | Yeah, I'd definitely say Campo di Marte was Best in Show. | Jethro42
04.27.21 | Yeah, it's a classic Italian prog.Quite varied moods throughout.
Are you searching for an album regarding the tourney? | Divaman
04.27.21 | I think I know what direction I'm going to go in, unless another inspiration overwhelms me. | Jethro42
04.27.21 | Is ''Best in Show'' an expression? | Divaman
05.04.21 | Yes, at least in the U.S. It actually usually refers to the top prize at something like a dog show, or perhaps a flower show -- something where judges have to judge a number of entrants on a variety of factors before adding up their scores to see who is the winner. | Divaman
05.04.21 | SO I'm a little nervous about this, considering Jethro Tull is probably my favorite band, and that last release, The String Quartets, was an embarrassment. But Ian has announced that a new Jethro Tull album, entitled The Zealot Gene, is forthcoming (with an unspecified release date). | Jethro42
05.04.21 | That's good news! Ian is once again found where he's at best; in the studios. The story don't tell if it's quality material, but at least he tried....If it's not good, they at least let us a legacy. To be continued...
| Divaman
05.04.21 | I hope. On that String Quartets album, even the studio wasn't able to entirely cover up his vocal problems. And while the new Strawbs album is OK, I'm definitely hearing the age in Dave Cousins' voice as well. Although with Ian, as you know, the problem goes well beyond his age. | Jethro42
05.04.21 | Yes, it's now hard for Dave Cousins to hit an high note, and because of that, I wish The Strawbs would have stopped at The Ferryman, where it was already hard for him. As for Ian's throat surgery in the 80s, he managed to make quantity of other albums with success. In his case, I think the musicians lowered their notes to help pushing Ian's vocals. | Divaman
05.04.21 | I just don't want to see Ian and the boys embarrass themselves. | MrSirLordGentleman
05.04.21 | many awesome albums in here. 4 and 5 are probably my favorites of the ones I've checked | Jethro42
05.04.21 | @Diva; Some artists just don't know when to call it a day, sometimes to satisfy themselves, sometimes to give gifts to the public, or both. But when energy and capabilities are not there anymore, why keep on forcing in vain...
@SirLord, good choices. A lot of my selection comes from Friday's tourneys. Take a look at 2, 6, 9, 10, 18 and couple more...To be continued. | Divaman
05.05.21 | There are a few tracks I like on the new Strawbs LP, so I'm not sorry they put it out. Some of them are very draggy, though, and Dave's voice is just wobbling all over the place. | Divaman
05.05.21 | Aging sucks. | Jethro42
05.06.21 | Yeah it does. I for myself used to frequent karaokes, and I had quite a powerful voice, similar to the Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) one if you like, but 6 years ago (52 y o), I had a throat surgery to help me swallowing food. Since then, I can't sing anymore. | Divaman
05.06.21 | Sorry to hear that. I always wished I had a powerful voice, but I never really did. |
|
