Why 2009 Has Been Great
2009 is half way threw and I've already heard a plethora of great stuff. Here's 15 of those records and with new Do Make Say Think due in October and new Jaga Jazzist due in November this is certainly going to be changing. |
1 | | Charles Spearin The Happiness Project
This album just works on all levels for me. Upon first listen I thought the concept would begin to wear thin and start to feel gimmicky. Luckily this doesn't happen and the amount of variety makes this a truly original album. This needs to have more praise on the site. |
2 | | maudlin of the Well Part the Second
Toby Driver, duh. |
3 | | Andrew Bird Noble Beast
A lot of people downplayed this album as one of his weakest. Personally, the music on here is subtley captivating and while less immediate then his previous records Noble Beast is equal to them. |
4 | | Grizzly Bear Veckatimest
The definition of a grower, this low-key brooder of an album has such a ridiculous eye for detail it makes me want to play it over and over and over again. |
5 | | Japandroids Post-Nothing
This just purely rocks. Plain and simple. |
6 | | Mono Hymn to the Immortal Wind
Post-rock done absolutely right. Everlasting Light for the match. |
7 | | Cymbals Eat Guitars Why There Are Mountains
This is a fantastic indie record that pulls influences from Modest Mouse and Pavement and molds it into something unique on its own. |
8 | | The Antlers Hospice
Pretty. |
9 | | Isis Wavering Radiant
One of the few metal records/bands I can listen to on a consisten basis. 'Nuff said. |
10 | | Bat for Lashes Two Suns
She has a great voice and the moody atmosphere creates a super album. |
11 | | Various Artists Dark Was the Night
So much great stuff on here. It would be higher if it wasn't a compilation album... somehow I feel that's cheating. |
12 | | St. Vincent Actor
Great female singer-songwriter, folky indie stuff. Next |
13 | | Camera Obscura My Maudlin Career
Pretty. Poppy. Yay for summer. |
14 | | The Decemberists Hazards of Love
This drags a bit in the second half as I made apparent in my review. Still this has enough great stuff to find itself at number 12 so far. |
15 | | Phoenix Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
See 13. |
