Favorite 2018 EPs
Since a 20-23 minute EP can be classified as an album now, some of these could as well be LPs. These 10 EPs have been the most interesting I found this year, so feel free to recommend others. The schizophrenic range from sludge to Kpop doesn't make sense, but oh well... |
1 | | Mental Architects ⠠⠠⠞⠗⠥⠑⠎⠊⠣⠞
Bulgarian math rock/alternative/post punk band. They play quite a diverse range of styles, still everything works really tight here. I kind of wish Truesight was a full LP. It's really cool and witnessing the band live only made me dig it more. If you have the chance to see them live, do so, they are great.

2 | | Piggy Black Cross Always Just Out of R.E.A.C.H.
Really cool side project of Toby Driver (Kayo Dot) and his girlfriend Bridget Bellavia. This is the last couple of Kayo Dot albums taken into a poppier direction.

3 | | Stonebride Animals on Display
The Croatian stoner rock band returned after a few years with a cool EP. I hope they'll reconvene and work on a full length because they still have it.

4 | | Fennesz Station One
A couple of songs to listen to until the man drops a new album. I'm ready for a new Fennesz LP, but these are a nice listen in the meantime.

5 | | Chrysta Bell Chrysta Bell
Not as cool as last year's LP, but there are some interesting songs here too. |
6 | | AFI The Missing Man
I decided a long time ago I am not a big fan of AFI. Nevertheless, seeing the high ratings of this EP made me listen to it. There are some cool tracks and it made me give them a second chance. |
7 | | Hammock Floating World
It's Hammock.

8 | | SunMi Warning
'Siren' and 'Black Pearl' are great tunes. The rest are decent Kpop tunes. |
9 | | Last Rizla Mount Machine
Cool, sludge/stoner metal band from Greece. See them live, they rule!

10 | | Yubin TUSM
More Kpop. 'Thank You Soooo Much' is a really catchy and fun, '80s influenced pop song. The other two are decent. It's clear the producers dedicated 80% of their time working on the single. |
