Meet Someguest

These are the ten albums which define my music taste, with some description where I see fit. Shake my hand. Give me a good word. Tell me my music taste "rules". I'm bored and full of shit.
1Agalloch
Ashes Against The Grain

An Agalloch release has never connected with me as well as this one (although The Mantle is close) and I truly feel like I'm in another world when I listen to it. And it's not only that, but also the fact that it fits the Michigan landscape perfectly in the fall and winter. It's depressed, overthinking, and reflective - just like me most of the time.
2Between Buried And Me
Colors

This album is solely responsible for getting me into heavier and more obscure material. It is that reason alone that it makes this list; it's not perfect and it's certainly not one of the best albums I've heard. However, it's not terrible either - anyone who claims to "cringe" at parts of it is trying too hard.
3Converge
Jane Doe

Obligatory "I'm a man" entry. Obvious "girl hurts my feelings" choice. Entirely worth it.
4Cryptopsy
None So Vile

None So Vile is probably the only death metal album that makes me smile from front to back. Maybe it's because the album is just that intelligent, or maybe I'm as perverted as Lord Worm. Hey, we do both like English, you know?
5DJ Shadow
The Private Press

Many of you will claim blasphemy for the inclusion of this album and not Endtroducing..., but this is just a much more personal album. While Endtroducing... is an album you watch unfold, The Private Press is an album in which you're actually a part. It's much more likely to pull your heartstrings, and the atmosphere is incredible.
6Eminem
The Marshall Mathers LP

As I look back on my junior high years, Eminem was the only good artist I was listening to. And in part, I think a lot of my life has shaped around what he told me as a youngster. The first couple of years I listened to this album it was my only escape from innocence; now it's my only escape back to it.
7Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas...

I didn't understand this album too well until I sat out on the lake last summer at two in the morning and watched a storm roll in. It reminds me that many times the music we love as absolutely nothing to do with the music, but what we experience during the times we listened to it. I'm going to try and recreate that same situation again this year.
8Metallica
Kill 'Em All

When people talk about thrash, this is the only album I think of. It sounds like a group of punks playing metal (and the only Metallica release with a punk vibe). It's fast, raw, full of attitude, and BEER.
9Pink Floyd
Animals

The further I've come in my college education, the further I've distanced myself from my original political ideals. I'm now in my senior year of a bachelor's program, and I never thought I'd be against capitalism. I guess working for a corporation for three years might do it.
10Streetlight Manifesto
Everything Goes Numb

I'm practically Kalonky - without the strong songwriting background and wit, of course.
