Recent Listens

Albums that i've gotten and listened to recently, plus ratings.
1The White Stripes
Elephant

Pretty good. Could have been a little shorter, but a pretty great disc. Little Acorns is probably my favourite so far.
2The Strokes
Is This It?

Really really great. Reminds me of a 21st century Blue Album; simple pop music executed perfectly.
3Queens Of The Stone Age
Rated R

Almost as good as Songs For The Deaf. No bad tracks here, and some really amazing ones (Better Living Through Chemistry, Autopilot, Quick and To The Pointless especially, in my opinion).
4Queens Of The Stone Age
Lullabies To Paralyze

I've been on a sort of Queens Of The Stone Age binge right now. This one disappointed a little bit. Some great songs, to be sure (Little Sister, Burn The Witch, Someone's In The Wolf), but more filler than the other two QOTSA albums that i've heard. Also, the production annoys me. I don't know why, it just really bugs me.
5Franz Ferdinand
Tonight: Franz Ferdinand

I nice dose of synth-pop. I love the progression of the album, where it starts off really upbeat and fun, then progressively darker, culminating in the acoustic Katherine Kiss Me. The reprise of the No You Girls lyrics in that song is a great touch.
6 Animal Collective
Merriweather Post Pavillion

This has grown off me, surprisingly. I think that they need to bring in a producer like Rick Rubin to streamline their sound a little bit. There are some amazing melodies at work here, but they're buried under an impenetrable layer of electronics, and it's annoying. Also, things tend to get repetitive. Most of the songs here average out at about 5 minutes, and they could easily be around 3.
7Radiohead
OK Computer

First Radiohead album that i've ever listened to, and oh my gosh it's amazing. Somehow this lived up to the hype. From Airbag all the way to Karma Police is probably the best chain of songs that i've ever heard. Fitter Happier is unfortunately pretty bad, but things pick up right again and never let up. Amazing.
8Smashing Pumpkins
Siamese Dream

Not as good as Mellon Collie, in my opinion, but still amazing. The production here is superb. I don't know how they got that guitar tone, but its great.
