01.05.08 | i guarentee someone will recommend Opeth. But just go to my favourite bands list on my profile :) much of it is metal |
Thor
01.05.08 | The Faceless
Ensiferum
Arsis
The Red Chord |
freudianslipknot
01.05.08 | Dunno - but I would suggest you listen to some of the classic metal stuff - e.g. Metallica "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" and Iron Maiden "Number of the Beast" and "Powerslave" - even Black Sabbath "Paranoid" "Master of Reality" etc. |
Yazz_Flute
01.05.08 | For number 2, the band is Circle Takes the Sqaure, As the Roots Undo is the name of their album.
I agree with freudianslipknot to an extend, start with more classic metal before trying more extreme stuff. I suggest Megadeth-Rust in Peace, and Master of Puppets is always a great place to start.
Try Protest the Hero as well, then maybe get some BTBAM (get Alaska first) and then try to get into more scandinavian acts if you're interested: like Wintersun (as you listed) or In Flames. |

Altmer
01.05.08 | Listen to Agalloch and Opeth. They rule copious amounts of face. |
TheStarclassicTreatment
01.05.08 | Avoid BTBAM and CTTS at first. Start with metalcore to ease into it. As I Lay Dying and Trivium, then expand. |
TheStarclassicTreatment
01.05.08 | Power Metal:
Helloween
Blind Guardian
Sonata Arctica
Gamma Ray |
masscows
01.05.08 | I don't know why he'd want to start with music that's mediocre or worse. Don't listen to Trivium. Don't go to Trivium shows. Don't buy Trivium merch. Don't support garbage. |
Chewie
01.05.08 | killswitch engage
protest the hero
shadows fall
children of bodom
all great metal bands and are worth checking out. |
Bfhurricane
01.05.08 | IRON MAIDEN. Dont listen to any other metal band before them. They'll help you tolerate more modern, heavier stuff. |
TheStarclassicTreatment
01.05.08 | Ascendancy-era Trivium that is btw
But power metal might be the way to go.
And Prog metal - Dream Theater, Queensryche, Pain Of Salvation etc. |
Bfhurricane
01.05.08 | This list of bands is probably really overwhelming for you. If you want to take my advice, get any album by Iron Maiden, "Operation: Mindcrime" by Queensryche, "Ride the Lightning" by Metallica, "Waking the Fallen" by Avenged Sevenfold. That will give you a great rounding of different types of metal, all tolerable. |
thesystemisdown
01.06.08 | Definitely check out Tool. I'd say that Iron Maiden and Tool are the two litmus test bands. |
blackened07
01.06.08 | Cryptopsy, Necrophagist, Goatwhore, Immortal, Emperor, Aborted, The Faceless, The Red Chord, Paths of Possession, Iron Maiden, Blind Gaurdian, Children of Bodom, |
Poet
01.06.08 | To add to Starclassic's list, you need Lost Horizon, they blow every other power metal band out of the water. They are probably the best vocals in metal too.
|
SynGates
01.06.08 | Definitely Cryptopsy, Lost Horizon, Opeth, Children of Bodom, Gorod, and Dark Tranquillity.
but there's a ton of other great suggestions here. Check 'em all out - ya never know. |
jrowa001
01.06.08 | Opeth, Edge of Sanity, Dark Tranquillity |
rattlehead42147
01.06.08 | The album Focus by Cynic will change your life and perception of music.
but I also recommend Protest the Hero's Kezia since you like BTBAM. |
