09.22.08 Some Favorite Songs09.20.08 First Ten On Shuffle

Some Favorite Songs

These are just a few, in no particular order save for number 1.
1The Black Dahlia Murder

It is my opinion that this is the best song they have written. It creates an atmosphere and carries it through the whole song. I love it.
Cold Hate, Warm Blood

I just like this one. If you don't, tough.
Blind Bleeding the Blind

The riff that drives this song is just plain bad ass, and as disjointed as the lyrics may seem at first glance, I think they fit well with the song. The dueling guitar parts during the leads was cool.
4The Acacia Strain

This song is extremely simplistic, however, it is aptly named. It accomplishes what I think most Acacia Strain songs are supposed to do, demolish your speakers, demolish your ears, and demolish your face.
Never Purify

One of the better songs off of Enemies that wasn't a single, as far as I know. As a result, it was a song I liked that was still fresh to me when I picked up the album.
6Dry Kill Logic
Neither Here Nor Missed

I tend to like this band when they're not attempting to be heavy. They have a good sound on their more mellow songs I think. I really wasn't impressed with Vengeance and Violence.
Ape Dos Mil

I think most of this album was very solid, however, this track caught my ear in particular.
8Ion Dissonance
She's Strychnine

This song is of interest to me because it maintains the harsh sound I usually associate with this band but does a good job of adding groove without falling into the Meshuggah worshiping riffage they went with on Minus the Herd.

Speaking of Meshuggah...This is probably my favorite song by them. Pre-Nothing era. All the lead parts were awesome in this song. This was back when the band didn't write a solo just because it was in an odd mode for a metal song. Seriously, if you don't have Destroy Erase Improve, at least check out this song. It runs the gamut of Meshuggah's sound.
Damage Inc.

This was a pissed off song. I don't think I have to say anything else.
11Pulse Ultra
Slip in Sin

I miss these guys. All the members of the band have their own projects, but Pulse Ultra were a strong band with an awesome sound. This song was a standout in my opinion.
12After the Burial
A Vicious Reforming of Features

This song sounds like it could have been on Nothing or Obzen. I know I talked about Meshuggah worship earlier, but I like this song.
13All Shall Perish
Prisoner of War

This is another song that sets a mood. The band chose a direction for the sound on this song and stuck with it. It stands completely apart from the rest of the music on this album
14The Black Dahlia Murder
I'm Charming

Heh, this song has better drumming I think, than the whole of Nocturnal. At least, it sounds more interesting than the endless sorta blasts on Nocturnal.
Slaying the Prophets of Isa

Best song on the album. All the pieces fit here, and the Choir parts are an awesome touch.
