My Top 20 This Year

Everyone else is doing it, so why not?
1 Be'Lakor
The Frail Tide

Yeah, that's right, an unsigned band has made the best album of the year. Almost incomparable in terms of atmosphere, amazing riffs, great vocals, every track is a joy to listen to.
2Souldrainer
Reborn

This never ceases to blow me away, the choir is epic, the vocals are amazing, the actual song writing is fantastic, almost perfect.
3Moonsorrow
V: Havitetty

Another fantastic album, only missing out on the top spot because of it being so demanding, this is still great music though.
4Dark Tranquillity
Fiction

DT have never made a bad album, they've never even made a good album, all of them are amazing and this is no different.
5 Sigh
Hangman's Hymn

A fantastically maniacal record, so fun to listen to and I've never heard anything quite like it before.
6Oceans of Sadness
Mirror Palace

Wonderfully different from anything else I've heard, you have to listen to this even if just out of curiosity.
7Amorphis
Silent Waters

Took everything from Eclipse and improved on it tenfold, great production, better vocals, better riffs, just a great album.
8Rotting Christ
Theogonia

Release early in the year I still haven't grown tired of this gem, melodic black metal with excellent classical elements without being overly symphonic, good stuff.
9 The Project Hate
In Hora Mortis Nostrę

Envoking imagery like I've never quite felt before, this album has stayed in my head thanks to the transitioning from brutality to beauty so brilliantly.
10Fear My Thoughts
Vulcanus

A versatile, catchy, furious and consistent album that really started to get me into melodic death metal.
11Kenos
The Craving

A mixed album that despite the lackluster vocals, manages to impress me due to the brilliant instrumentation and strong strictures.
12Nightingale
White Darkness

A really good album for chilling out to, progressive rock done well.
13Ensiferum
Victory Songs

My first cd by them, and I love it. Catchy folk metal meets powerful death metal and makes a truly stunning ride from start to finish.
14Between the Buried and Me
Colors

Although it is grossly overrated, this album is still very, very good, mixing a lot of progressive influences with powerful metalcore.
15Arch Enemy
Rise of the Tyrant

I loved it at first, in fact, I had it as album of the year for a short while. But now, I have grown distant of it, were it not for how much I loved it at first it wouldn't be here.
16Raintime
Flies and Lies

Read above.
17Thurisaz
Circadian Rhythm

Although a bit of a let down considering their previous album was jaw-dropping, this is still a great experience.
18Naglfar
Harvest

Simple melodic black metal done well, might not be the most unique album ever, but it certainly is a good one.
19Graveworm
Collateral Defect

Another great black metal release, this one just as good as 'Harvest', thoroughly enjoyable.
20Swallow the Sun
Hope

It took it's sweet time but this finally fought it's way into my top 20 at the last second, might be at the bottom of the list but still a great album.
