01.27.13 | It's hard when you have a short attention span but the best advice I can give is........OOH LOOK, A SQUIRREL!! |
Dunwich
01.27.13 | Marijuana and/or alcohol plus bed is a winning combination. It really transcends the listening experience. |
Mookid
01.27.13 | You're exactly like me, I just listen to half of it one time, then come back to the other half later. I can rarely listen to an album all the way through |
bach
01.27.13 | I just stare sit in my swivel chair and stare at the light bulb. |

01.27.13 | I find that listening while driving alone helps, just don't immerse too much or you crash and there's nothing that ruins an album more that it reminding you of twisted metal and blood. |
Wolfhorde
01.27.13 | Yeah, sitting in some sort of vehicle or moving is pretty swell for immersing in an album. |
ViperAces
01.27.13 | dont force yourself through... |
JokineAugustus
01.27.13 | Don't listen to 2 unless you want one endless orgasm start to finish. |
bach
01.27.13 | @Jokine
My dick was pretty limp throughout the duration of 2. |

01.27.13 | listen to better music

01.27.13 | Sometimes it's hard to admit, but most music made isn't going to speak to you deeply enough for you to sit and pay attention through the whole thing. It has to be (as you perceive it) worth your time spent sitting and focusing on it. It's easy to listen to a whole album when it's background noise (a la driving, working). Not so easy to dedicate undivided attention to most albums. |
mindleviticus
01.27.13 | First off go to bed and listen to the album for your first listen. The music will find a way to dig deep in your mind while you sleep (fragments of the sound will be heard in sleep). When you wake up the next morning, you will want to know what you were listening to, so you should listen to it again. This second listen should be a lot easier. |

01.27.13 | Yeah I actually listened to Honor Found in Decay last night and didn't realise my iPod was on repeat. I even dreamed I was listening to A Sun That Never Sets (not quite sure how that works but anyway) and it was fucking amazing. Now today I've just been keen to have the biggest Neurosis jam. And I've been enjoying HFID a lot more. |
minty901
01.27.13 | your problem, OP, is that you're overthinking everything. just listen to the music and either enjoy it / don't enjoy it. what's the problem? |
minty901
01.27.13 | i get the feeling you're trying to force yourself to "get" albums that are critically acclaimed "classics" and you're frustrated by the fact that you aren't appreciating them as much as you should. that's the problem with being in such a dedicated music critic community like sputnik. don't put pressure on yourself to be the connoisseur that everyone here claims themselves to be. listen to what sounds good to you and if you enjoy it, listen more. i use this site as a buyer's guide, but i'm happy to admit when i don't enjoy an album. i'm not a fan of radiohead. not gonna get my panties in a twist because i'm struggling to get "immersed" in OK computer. happy to resign myself to the fact that i'm not really a fan. |
ViperAces
01.27.13 | i actually didnt like ok computer on first listen, but i dont feel like i forced myself upon it and now i love it |
Detritivore
01.27.13 | When the tapes existed, was much easier to hear a complete album. Now I try listen to first five or six songs and then, if i got the enough attention, I hear the "B side". |
StallionMang
01.27.13 | I always listen to new albums right before I go to sleep. That way, there's nothing else that you have to do, so you can just focus on the music. |
DotEight
01.27.13 | Depends on the album. Some by smoking weed, some by having a few drinks, and some by just laying in bed and closing your eyes. |
YoYoMancuso
01.27.13 | close your eyes, lay back and put on some headphonez. the end |
demigod!
01.27.13 | headphones and marijuana |
LowStandards
01.27.13 | "I always listen to new albums right before I go to sleep. That way, there's nothing else that you have to do, so you can just focus on the music."
I do something kinda the same. After I wake up and do my routine, I sit down at my computer and basically have the entire day of free time. If I have a new album or two, I just sit and listen to it. Rarely do I get sidetracked |
8bit
01.27.13 | Listen to some Godspeed, chill in your room.
I'd go against driving while listening to a new album, whenever I do that, I can only think of the place I was driving when I listen to that album. |
Insurrection
01.27.13 | Get high |
artificialbox
01.27.13 | play it really loud |
JustJoe.
01.27.13 | Sometimes I like to read up on the artist/album beforehand. Gives me context. |
PistolPete
01.27.13 | Listen to the album while you're doing homework (only if you're someone who can focus on it while having music in the background). You won't notice how long the songs are and every so often something'll pop out in a song that sticks in your mind after. |
