The under 50 vote club of awesomeness
Here are some of my favorite releases by bands that have no album with more than 50 votes in no particular order. These need more love folks, some great albums here and rival many of my all time favorites. |
1 | | Andrew Judah Monster
Very unknown singer songwriter out of my hometown Kelowna, BC. Just released a collection of 22 songs over the last year. An indie-folk ,electronic fusion that should definitely be checked out. |
2 | | Wild Throne Harvest of Darkness
Only 11 votes at posting, this album fuses Mars Volta with From First to Last - Heroine and metal. This band needs more love. |
3 | | Mt. Helium Faces
The short lived reincarnation of The Apex Theory with a new vocalist who captures the sound of the band. A great combo of progressive rock and metal. Channels System of a down grooves without the ridiculousness and a bit of that nu metal sound you miss so much, although still puts fresh stamp and makes it their own. |
4 | | D.D Dumbo Utopia Defeated
One of the most original and moving collection of music I've heard over the last year, the multi-instrumentalist uses loops to create something unlike any other "singer-songwriter" in my collection. Band name is stupid though. |
5 | | The Postman Syndrome Terraforming
The original incarnation of East of the Wall, this is one of my favorite albums of all time. Post-Hardcore, Metal, Prog, Metalcore, this thing destroys and soothes you with great melodies. If you can get by the grating to some vocals by their harsh vocalist this is a very rewarding listen. |
6 | | Aidan Knight Small Reveal
A great Canadian indie folk band that reminds me of Patrick Watson and Andrew Bird. A concept album that tells you a story of a couple that grows and falls apart due to tragedy. Don't miss out if alt-folk-indie is your jam. |
7 | | New End Original Thriller
One of the many Jonah Matranga (Far) side projects, this one is by far (no pun intended) my favorite. Worth a check if you're a fan of Far or just solid poppy rock, emo, altrock. |
8 | | Fink Perfect Darkness
A folky blues slow burning album that really hits hard with me. I'm surprised he's not very popular globally, but his/their music is very cool. Reminds me of The Frames... Very dark and atmospheric. |
9 | | The Frames Burn The Maps
Speaking of the Frames these guys are Irish legends , more popular there then U2 and not one album has more than 32 votes! Glen Hansard? He was part of The Swell Season... Still nothing? He starred in the movie Once and co-wrote the whole soundtrack. Just check them out if you like dark indie-rock ok?? |
10 | | kiev Falling Bough Wisdom Teeth
Only heard of these guys cause they had a song on the Walking Dead, a band that has yet to break through, only one album under their belt but have been touring non-stop with the likes of Silversun Pickups and Foals. I hate to put this on them, but this album reminds me of a combo of the Bends and Ok Computer. Great alt-rock, folky, proggy sexiness. |
11 | | Kill Sadie Experiments in Expectation
The band that gave birth to These arms are snakes and Minus the Bear. Definitely sound more like the former, but still a great album to check out if you like experimental Post-hardcore sound. |
12 | | Moon Tooth Chromaparagon
I just laid down the 49th vote for this band. A proggy, metal album and it's not Djent! that has crazy melodies that keep bringing me back, reminds me of something I can't put my finger on m but definitely worth getting into if that's your thing. |
13 | | Racebannon In the Grips of the Light
This band sounds fucked up. It's a noise rock, post-hardcore mess that makes me feel weird but I keep coming back. It encapsulates the dirtyness of Glassjaw's worship and tribute production but after that it's its own beast. Dark but very cool. |
14 | | Husbandry Fera
I had to add this band to the database earlier today. They are a post-hardcore band out of NYC that sound like a fusion between Glassjaw, Mars Volta and Circa survive but with a female vocalist. They are very cool and I can see them breaking out in a big way very soon. |
15 | | name ...You Are Mostly Nowhere
A progressive Post hardcore, metalcore album that jumps around from near post-rock moments to Convergesque moments. Noticed one of the users digging this and I gave it a listen, very fucking good... but as ya'll have probably noticed most of my favorites revolve around the PH and prog genres. |
16 | | gP. Destroy, So as to build
This is very new to me, but found it on a spotify playlist. There is basically no info about this band, they used to be called Ghost Parade. This was a refreshing but pretty straightforward altrock EP. Reminded me of Far quite a bit also Jimmy Eat World at their heavier side. |
17 | | Heck Instructions
Great Post-hardcore and Hardcore album. Reminds me of Exit_International and Every Time I die. Looking for a loud core album, give this a spin. |
18 | | Hannah Epperson UPSWEEP
Very little light been shone on this gal, she reminds me of a female Andrew Bird in her sound. A great experimental alt folk album. |
19 | | Haste The Mercury Lift
A Post-hardcore album from back in 2003, reminds me of the style that Poison the Well and Hopesfall were doing at that time. Band gave it up shortly after this but a great oldy from the archives. |
20 | | Big Wreck In Loving Memory Of...
Do you miss the 90's? do you miss grunge? Well this Canadian band is still making music and they've made 4 albums of some pretty good jams. It's not likely to knock you on your ass but they're one of my favorite alt-rock bands. |
21 | | Blacklisters Adult
A noisecore and post-hardcore gem, compared to Mclusky and Exit_International. |
22 | | Atmospheres The Departure
If you are into a progressive metal with some ambient moments, this is for you. Similar to Skyharbor. |
23 | | Brazil A Hostage and the Meaning of Life
An album that fuses Mars Volta, At the drive-In and some Post-Hardcore tendencies, this is one of those albums that stayed with me over the years. |
24 | | Chavez Ride The Fader
A band that went under the radar in the mid 90's and now just released an EP in 2017. Sound like Soundgarden meets Jawbox. Good for you 90's rock cravings. |
25 | | Despistado The Emergency Response
A very short lived energetic band that had a very unique sound. Reminiscent of Moneen a bit, they made a lasting impact on my ears. |
