| The Best Of 2007 (...so Far)
2007 has been a pioneering year for music, and here's what you should buy, if you have ears. | 1 | | Nine Inch Nails Year Zero
What else can I say about Year Zero? The album has a perfect storyline, that is deeper than most TV shows, and the new, sexy electronic vibe is completely excellent and is some of the best music Trent's made in years. The electronic beats get kind of overused, but still, the album works out perfectly. | 2 | | Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank Planet
Steven Wilson has finally became the amazing progressive rock musician we've wanted for years. This album, comprised of six tracks, packs a wallop, that starts with the heavy, yet melodic and very, very dark title track, hits its climax with the spiraling epic Anesthetize, and finishes off with Sleep Together. Porcupine Tree never disapoints. | 3 | | Dinosaur Jr. Beyond
Look, this band has captured my iPod as of late, and I absolutely love this album. The band may be aging, but their music sure isn't, and I can't believe how well this album works and the raw feel it has, considering how much success they've had as of late, and the quality of this album, considering how long this band has been going on for. | 4 | | Minus the Bear Planet of Ice
A few months ago, I had no clue who this band was, but now, Planet of Ice is one of my favorites of 2007. The album has a distinctive progressive/alternative rock feel, while keeping the band's trademark playful, innocent type of indie. | 5 | | Modest Mouse We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
This band hasn't sold out; their music is still spastic, fun, and just wholly enjoyable. The lead singer's random tangents, the guitar work, the 'funky'ness of their music, and this is their best album in years. One of my favorites so far, easily. | 6 | | Interpol Our Love to Admire
Interpol is talented at making catchy music, and this is no different. Catchy, pop-fueled, and filled with a dark vibe. The band has squeezed their sound for all it's worth, and while this album might be controversial of hardcore fans, it's still an astonishing album worthy of notice. | 7 | | Smashing Pumpkins Zeitgeist
When I first heard Zeitgeist, it didn't click. Now, the album stands out, quite simply because it sounds like nothing else in their catalogue. Not as good as their other stuff, but it's a good starting point and may alude to some excellent music in the future. | 8 | | Megadeth United Abominations
Another unusually awesome release considering how long this band has been playing. Who would have though Megadeth would have released an album worth consideration so late in their career? Not me, but this album fits perfectly in their prestigious line-up. | 9 | | Between the Buried and Me Colors
The album hasn't actually been released yet, but the leaks I've heard rock the house. The album is varied, fun, and highly progressive, especially for their genre. Colors is one of the best releases in the genre in years, if not of all time. | 10 | | Chevelle Vena Sera
Chevelle was just plainly boring mainstream rock before this album, as now, they're a full fledged metal band filled with aggressive hooks, Maynard James-influenced vocal styles, and the ability to make amazing songs worthy of the highest praise, like I Get It. | |

09.15.07 | I agree on 2. Btbam are overrated. I want 10. | Willie
09.15.07 | Holy crap! We actually agree on something... well, almost.... I agree that 2 is definitely amazing progressive rock, but I don't think that it finally happened with this album... it happened years ago. | Willie
09.15.07 | ...other then that I don't like any of them. | KritikalMotion
09.15.07 | 2 is great.
I've never known how to enjoy NIN.
4 is pretty amazing, but i like Menus el Oso better. | FlawedPerfection
09.15.07 | Some really good albums. Some really bad albums. | Bfhurricane
09.15.07 | Colors is so good its ridiculous, definitely my favorite of the year. And I think more people ought to be listening to "Paradise Lost" by Symphony X, its better than quite a few albums on this list. | tribestros
09.15.07 | Well, I love old Porcupine Tree stuff, but they are a lot more progressive now then they used to be. | cometuesday
09.15.07 | Interpol makes me want to kill. And what I've heard off that new Modest Mouse, I get the feeling it would irritate the hell out of me too.
Otherwise, whatev. | Mikesn
09.15.07 | 2, 4, 5 are in my top ten right now as well. | McP3000
10.13.07 | 2-5 is really good list and i agree. Not a fan of NIN, and the others are BAD. |
