05.14.08 | Because they suck
because they suck big donkey balls
There's 14 other artists, too, Ya know. | slep
05.14.08 | Dear god, stay away from Portugal. The Man. That band in so incredibly awful. | Athom
05.14.08 | haha true dat, i fell asleep during one of Portugal the Man's sets. when i woke up they were doing a really bad cover of the Beatles 'Helter Skelter'. it felt like waking up into a bad dream. | cometuesday
05.14.08 | waiter: you vultures was a pretty good record, imo | Chewie
05.14.08 | why do you hate Thrice, I'm a fucking Sad Panda now, for 6, try Massive Attack(Mezzanine) | Big Baby Jesus
05.14.08 | Everyone Loves Massive Attack. I got all their shit. Nice recommendation, tho. | willfellmarsy
05.14.08 | High five on the Thrice sucking...but Coheed? Coheed? Take thy beak from out thine heart...
Get Protest the Hero immediately (ur tastes say to me that Kezia would be the better album to start with)
Get DEP's Irony is a Dead Scene because that combines Mike Patton with the band and makes sheer ear sex. | Masochist
05.14.08 | Wow...had a nice long-ass comment explaining recommends for all of these, and it told me it was too long. Dammit...why is there even a limit?
No matter, we'll do it this way:
#1 - Notes: (Don't like Thrice? That's terrible...) DEP and FOT don't have the same sound as TMV, but they do have the same crazy, almost bi-polar disregard for regular structured music
Recommend: Protest the Hero
#2 - Notes: If you don't like Sage Francis, you might not like The Coup, either. Still, try 'em out and see. They're a bit more, ahh, bouncy than Sage. MF Doom is one of my favorite rappers right now.
Recommend: All rap artists on Epitaph (Atmosphere, Busdriver, etc....just sample 'em), DangerDoom (MF Doom and Danger Mouse), Deltron 3030
#3 - Notes: No clue who these guys are.
#4 - Recommends: Nas, Mos Def, Talib Kwali, Asheru, Pharoahe Monch, Ghostface Killah, GZA
#5 - Notes: Hard to recommend...
#6 - Notes: No Oakenfold? Shame...
Recommends: X-ecutioners, Fischerspooner, Chemical Brothers...might like LCD SS...
#7 - Recommends: perhaps Gym Class Heroes and/or Rage Against the Machine
#8 - Notes: No idea
#9 - Notes: about the closest I come to name-dropping funk artists is early 80's Chili Peppers. Good music, though...
#10 - Notes: Checked them out on YouTube just now. Freaky.
Recommends: Reminds me a bit of Dream Theater, but only in structure. Not sure what to recommend instead...
#11 - Notes: GREAT band!
Recommends: The Eagles are awesome...also John Frusciante's solo work
#12 - Recommends: See #4
#13 - Notes: Great band!
Recommends: Silent Civilian/Spineshank, German band Rammstein
#14/15 - Notes: No Clue
Etc. - Recommends: Dream Theater, Muse, Radiohead, Fair To Midland, Powerman 5000, NOMAK, Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle, Deftones.
Great variety! Hope I've helped out a bit... | Masochist
05.14.08 | Heh heh...knew I would do this...
You might also check out Aceyalone, or his underground group project he did called Haiku d'Etat. | Big Baby Jesus
05.14.08 | Extremely helpful, bro. Thanks! Please accept $21 in Jew Gold as a token of my appreciation. | Masochist
05.14.08 | ROFL! Thanks!
I've got one more: Sigur Ros (Norwegian Post-Rock band). | Ouch
05.16.08 | Congrads on hating coheed, but hating Thrice? Since when did it become cool to hate on them? | Big Baby Jesus
05.16.08 | Who said it was cool? I just can't fucking stand the 2 and a half albums I've heard from them. I could understand why one wouldn't get me hating them, tho. | RoshanC
05.22.08 | The Coup are incredible. Best hip hop group since Wu Tang. Got a good mix of G-Funk and old school vibes yet combining it with a more modern sound to create something truly awesome. I would reccomend getting Steal this Album first
I wholeheartedly reccomend The Meters, a great mix of soul and funk. Get Rejuvenation
If you like the more fucked up metal side of Mr. Bungle, get some Fantomas. It a supergroup of Patton, Bungle bassist Dunn, Dave Lombardo of Slayer on drums and Buzz Osbourne from the Melvins. It is insane in the right way. theyre debut is a good place to start, although their sound alters on each record |
