I'm Bout To Call Bovice
Stoner Albums through time and space. the best albums to get high to from the 60's to The Present day. Here's part 1. |
1 | | The Beatles Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
1967: Wow Sgt. Peppers, Forever Changes by Love, The Doors, Are You Experienced, Piper at the gates.... One of the best times to get stoned, ever. |
2 | | The Zombies Odessey And Oracle
1968: Barely edged out Electric Ladyland. You're in good shape listening to either. |
3 | | King Crimson In the Court of the Crimson King
1969: though there were lots of other great albums in '69. It really wasn't even close. ITCOTCK has always been a stoners favorite. |
4 | | Black Sabbath Paranoid
1970: OK, this one REALLY wasn't close. This is top 5 all time. I didn't have to think about it. But if you must know, Led Zeppelin III was 2nd, followed by Deep Purple In Rock. |
5 | | Funkadelic Maggot Brain
1971: Oh... I'm Sorry, were you expecting to see Led Zeppelin IV here? The best album of the year, that can be argued for or against. But there is no question that Maggot Brain is a far better album to get high to. (Definitely the closest runner up tho.) |
6 | | Nick Drake Pink Moon
1972: Also doubles as the best album of '72 to commit suicide to. |
7 | | Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon
1973: Responsible for more lung damage than Phillip Morris and Filter Kings Combined. Catch A Fire was a very close second, but C'mon. Dark Side Of The Moon! Maybe the only CD that has gone through 4 full generations of stoners. |
8 | | Kraftwerk Autobahn
1974: Not a whole lot of great stuff to get stoned to in '74. Basically just this, the natty dread by Bob Marley/ Wailers and Red by King Crimson. |
9 | | Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti
1975: The best double album to get high to and my second favorite Zeppelin album behind III. |
10 | | Aerosmith Rocks
1976: getting stoned to "Rocks" sounds a little redundant if you ask me. |
11 | | Kraftwerk Trans-Europa Express
1977: Anytime Kraftwerk made an album, it was a serious contender for stoner album of the year. |
12 | | Devo Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
1978: Man Machine by Kraftwerk was a close second, and The Cars also came to mind. |
13 | | Pink Floyd The Wall
1979: Way too many choices in '79: ya got Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division, Strangers in the night by UFO, Eskimo by The Residents. But The Wall is the clear favorite. |
14 | | Talking Heads Remain in Light
1980: An extremely disappointing album. Was hailed to be the best album of the decade and I'd only give it 3.5 stars. Despite this, it is the funnest album of the year to get stoned to, maybe some would say Joy Division, but I disagree |
15 | | Rush Moving Pictures
1981: Another one of those albums that stoners are automatically expected to like. Runners up include: Computer World by Kraftwerk, Discipline By King Crimson, and Alles Ist Gut by D.A.F. |
16 | | The Violent Femmes The Violent Femmes
1982: Not a year chuck full of Stoner gems, but there were good ones. 1999 by Prince is runner up. |
17 | | R.E.M. Murmur
1983: Quite possibly the worst year ever to be a stoner. |
18 | | Prince Purple Rain
1984: Not often does the years best album double as the years best album to get stoned to, but Prince is good at that type of thing.Double Nickels On The dime by Minutemen was runner up. |
19 | | The Jesus and Mary Chain Psychocandy
1985: Very, Very, Very close to being a tie with Rain Dogs by Tom Waits, But Psychocandy is a tad more accessible and mellow (Ok, more than a tad.) |
20 | | Coil Horse Rotorvator
1986: Again, very close to a tie, but Horse Rotorvator is just a little more fun than Master Of Puppets to get stoned to (With Master Of Puppets actually being the better album all around.), but both albums are immensely classic to Stoners, and Narcs alike. |
21 | | Boogie Down Productions Criminal Minded
1987: I guess It's very rare to see a Rap album being the best album to get stoned to any year, much less the 80s. Well that's all about to change. |
22 | | Pixies Surfer Rosa
1988: The year rap absolutely exploded. Because of this, I have about 9 runner ups for this year. Critical Beatdown was originally my number one, until I remembered surfer rosa was made in 88, not 89 like I thought originally. Other close calls include: The Great adventures of slick rick, Strictly business by EPMD, South of heaven, Straight outta compton, and It Takes a Nation of Millions by PE, among countless others |
23 | | Beastie Boys Paul's Boutique
I was born in 1989, therefore I am much more familiar with music from this year on, so I will rank the top 5 albums from now on......... 1989: Definitely in the All time top 5 rap albums to get high to. It's so experimental and awesome. 2. Nine Inch Nails/Pretty hate Machine 3. The Pixies/Doolittle 4. Faith No More/The Real Thing 5. De La Soul/3 Feet High and Rising |
24 | | Ride Nowhere
1990: An immense amount of choices, yet only one of them is a rap album. 2. Depeche Mode/Violator 3. Ice Cube Amerikkka's Most Wanted 4. Skinny Puppy/Too Dark Park 5. Fugazi/Repeater. |
25 | | My Bloody Valentine Loveless
1991: An amazing album in any state of mind. Such a great album, it was a runaway in a year so busy, I had to make a top 10 instead of a top 5:
2. Red Hot Chili Peppers/Blood Sugar Sex Magik 3. Mr. Bungle/Mr. Bungle 4. Cypress Hill/Cypress Hill 5. Nirvana/Nevermind 6. Coil/Love's Secret Domain 7. Massive Attack/Blue Lines 8. Smashing Pumpkins/Gish 9. Bongwater/ The Power Of Pussy 10. |
26 | | Dr. Dre The Chronic
1992: Believe it or not, this wasn't the clearcut favorite. 2. Sublime/ 40. Oz to Freedom 3. Faith No More/Angel Dust 4. Ween/Pure Guava 5. The Prodigy/Experience |
27 | | Wu-Tang Clan Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
1993: Not a very hard decision. 2. Cypress Hill/Black Sunday 3. Tool/Undertow 4. Snoop Doggy Dogg/ Doggystyle 5. Slowdive/Souvlaki |
28 | | Notorious B.I.G. Ready To Die
1994: The best rap album of all time. 2. Aphex Twin/Selected Ambient Works, Vol. II 3. Ween/Chocolate and Cheese 4. Nas ILLmatic 5. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral |
29 | | GZA/Genius Liquid Swords
1995: A Pretty distant #1 if you ask me. 2. Raekwon/ Only Built for Cuban Linx 3. 4. Radiohead/The Bends 5. Mr. Bungle/Disco Volante |
30 | | Dr. Octagon Dr. Octagonecologyst
1996: There should be universal agreement on this one. 3. DJ Shadow/ endtroducing 3. Tool/Aenima 4. Jay-Z/Reasonable Doubt 5. Outkast/ ATLIENS |
