| Disappointments Of 2009
List of let-down albums from 2009. | 1 | | Basement Jaxx Scars
I enjoyed Kish Kash pretty thoroughly, but was a bit let down by Crazy Itch Radio. This one continues in that direction and is just too experimental at times to be enjoyable. | 2 | | Dream Theater Black Clouds and Silver Linings
Admittedly, this is better than Systematic Chaos, but still nowhere near classic Dream Theater quality. Their last 3 or 4 albums have all just sounded much too similar. | 3 | | Editors In This Light and on This Evening
I commend Editors for taking things in a different direction, but instead of finding their own unique sound, they've made a terribly generic 80s-sounding turd. | 4 | | Julian Plenti Julian Plenti is... Skyscraper
While I enjoyed this more than the community as a whole seemed to, it's still pretty bland at times. Check my full review for a more detailed analysis of all the problems to be found here, if you'd like. | 5 | | Killswitch Engage Killswitch Engage [II]
Has a few quality songs, but Killswitch needs to start switching things up, as every album gets more and more repetitive and overdone. | 6 | | KMFDM Blitz
Haven't had a passable album since Hau Ruck. | 7 | | Lacuna Coil Shallow Life
Not that I expected this to be anything but terrible, but the title track is pretty much the only thing worth a listen. | 8 | | Muse The Resistance
Definitely one of the biggest letdowns for me this year. I quite enjoyed Black Holes and Revelations, moreso than most here seem to have, but this is just terrible. I don't think there's a single song here worth mentioning, even Exogenesis was a pretty big flop. | 9 | | Placebo Battle for the Sun
The title track and Kings of Medecine are so great, and the rest of the album is generic and repetitive. Such a letdown after Meds. | 10 | | Porcupine Tree The Incident
Way too ambitious. Not enough quality, full length songs to make it a worthy listen. They were pushing it with Fear of a Blank Planet, but this is just too much. | 11 | | Priestess Prior to Fire
Hello Master was decent. This is not. Pretty forgettable after a couple of listens. | 12 | | Riverside Anno Domini High Definition
It's not bad, but it's not particularly creative, either. A letdown after their last three solid efforts, but I'm glad they're at least trying to move in a slightly more interesting direction. | 13 | | Sonata Arctica The Days of Grays
Maybe I'm just growing out of this style of metal, or maybe Sonata Arctica just isn't good anymore. Nothing here really grabs me like their old stuff used to. | 14 | | Wolfmother Cosmic Egg
Again, I think I enjoyed it more than most, but it's still not good enough to be anything more than a guilty pleasure. | 15 | | 3 Revisions
Taking a bunch of mediocre songs and re-recording them still creates an album of mediocre songs. Only a few saving graces to be had here, but for the most part, a definite pass. Still looking forward to their new album, though. | |

12.19.09 | i agree with all of these. | EVedder27
12.19.09 | Sort of agree with Porcupine Tree, although I think its 3.5 good. Still not nearly as good as FOABP though. Daisy and 311's Uplifter would make my list. | samstrikesback
12.19.09 | Ugh I felt betrayed when I heard Muse... | Foxhound
12.19.09 | Sadly Daisy was a slight letdown for me as well. I wish every song was as awesome as Vices. | ninjuice

12.19.09 | 'Daisy' made me a much bigger Brand New fan than I was before. Muse was a letdown, but it had some surprising gems ("Uprising," to be specific). Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree, while not their best, were certainly solid. Also, DT's album was their strongest since 'Octavarium' (which I recognize isn't liked my most as much as it's enjoyed by myself).
Those are the only ones I've heard. | Valdiuss
12.19.09 | I really wasn't a fan of Daisy to start, but it grew on me over time. Some songs are a little too weird but overall it's experimentation that works.
As for DT, I also enjoyed parts of Octavarium, but again, it's just all too similar sounding that even if it is alright on it's own, as a part of DT's discography, it just doesn't stand out. | AnotherBrick
12.19.09 | man i loved 2 and 10, black clouds is my 2nd favorite release from DT and the incident is nowhere as good as their other stuff but still amazing imo | Valdiuss
12.19.09 | 2nd favorite to which album, out of curiosity? | SeaAnemone
