Digggggggggggggg

Another dig list. Woohoo.
1Catamenia
Location:COLD

Melodic black metal from Finland. Pretty amazing in the amount of riffs they pack into these songs, and nearly all of them are amazing. Everything from a kind of punch in the face heaviness to slow ballads are here. Seriously, listen to "The Day When The Sun Faded Away" and tell me that isn't an amazing song.
2Diablo
Mimic 47

Melodic death metal from Finland. A big thanks to last.fm for showing me this pretty sick band. It's pretty unique in the way they choose simple, but effective, riffs to make each song melodic in its own sense. A perfect album to jump up and headbang to, songs like "Kathryn" just make you smile.
3Carcharoth
From The Cavern Come

If you can find it, this is one gem which you don't want to miss. It's best described as Progressive Melodic Death/Black metal, sounds pretty dumb but when you listen to the music you'll be amazed in its maturity. Deep growls, majestic (but not overbearing in the least bit) keyboards, raspy screeches, sweeping guitar leads, it has everything. Fans of Ikuinen Kaamos and Moonsorrow should look into this album.
4In The Woods...
Heart Of The Ages

I first heard of In The Woods... through their astounding album Omino, so I couldn't help myself when I found their earlier (and fairly surprising) album Heart Of The Ages. It combines the best elements of Omino and adds in some black metal vocals. Epic in that sort of non-cheesy and depressing way, it's pretty damn captivating when it gets going. Toss in some sweet guitar solos for good measure and you get a big thumbs up dig from me.
5Olafur Arnalds
Eulogy For Evolution

Neo-classical from the same Icelandic gentleman who brought us the instrumentals for Heaven Shall Burn. Genius in its simplicity, the emotion flowing through the songs here is as thick as blood. This is music which anyone can listen to, appreciate, and be impacted by. I don't care who you are. This album is a must-listen, with it's masterful piano work and incorporation of drums, violin, and even a bit of guitar toward the end.
6Barathrum
Eerie

This is strange, but slightly relieving. In this black metal album from Barathrum, they actually use a heavy amount of bass to guide some of the album's best melodies. It works nearly flawlessly, making this album a bass lover's dream. The scream at the beginning of "The Twilight" never fails to put a huge smile across my face, and that goes for the rest of the amazing vocal performance. Produced just right to still have that black metal feel to it, but to put all the instruments in their place.
7Equilibrium
Sagas

Cheesy, epic, glorious, and wonderful music to watch the lord of the rings to. It's got everything that you would want and more. Sweeping leads, awesome vocals, and an overall upbeat, kickass attitude which you would want to spread to your bloodthirsty armies as you charge across a giant field in some distant land. It's like Ensiferum on crack. Oh ya, the 16 and a half minute instrumental "Mana" is pure genius.
8Summoning
Minas Morgul

By and far the best Summoning album I've heard. After nearly making me throw up during the course of Oath Bound, Summoning fully redeemed themselves and then some with this album. It's heavier, darker, and (thank god) puts the guitars more up-front. Every song is amazing and the lyrics tell a brilliant story inspired by Tolkien and weave their way through Middle Earth like nothing I've ever heard.
9Cryptic Wintermoon
Of Shadows...And The Dark Things You Fear

Melodic black metal which moves at an amazing pace. With songs like the (stupidly titled) "Thrashomatic Overdrive" this is a seriously heavy, but refreshingly melodic album which will surely appeal to a wide range of metal fans. Lots of excellent guitar melodies and good vocals spread themselves throughout the playing time of this album, and every song is easy to listen to and unique in its own way, something I really want to see more of with melodic black metal bands.
10Children Of Bodom
Hatebreeder

What happened? What happened?!?! COB went from the absolutely classic (Warheart, Silent Night, Bodom Night) to...... to...... to....... LoBodomy............ what the hell?
