metal chillout records for g(r/h)ey skies
get lost in the cold vibes and hot cocoa (or caca if youre an indie rocker). this is my most sputnik list, no elite stuff here |
1 | | Amorphis Tales from the Thousand Lakes
i prefer karelian isthmus but this is great, experimental takes me away to another land, a land o lakes. you really feel like youre the indian girl when you listen to this, except she's trapped on the album cover |
2 | | Katatonia Dance of December Souls
wimpy but mildly heavy, slow synths and shit makes me think of video games. has an anime feel |
3 | | Agalloch Pale Folklore
the best from the sputnik masters of atmospheric wintery american vegan black metal, i dont really jam these guys anymore but every once in a while it hits the spot and this is the go-to typically. |
4 | | Opeth Orchid
i care as much about opeth as i do about the price of women's underwear but this is a transportative atmospheric journey, the prog stuff isnt overblown, the formula of "growls then an acoustic clean part" wasnt really a formula yet, it was just badass. solid ass production, not a girly album like some of the others. plus the black metal feel is still here |
5 | | Edge of Sanity The Spectral Sorrows
opeth before opeth and riffier! sweet. fits the vibe. sword in hand |
6 | | Dimmu Borgir Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
mountain dew personified, galloping through a forest and wearing a cloak or some shit. a solid listen from one of the most reviled bands |
7 | | Unanimated In The Forest Of The Dreaming Dead
finally a "trve" record on here, yall can feel the melodies pouring out |
8 | | Sarcasm (SWE) A Touch of the Burning Red Sunset
not as well known as the others but this is melodic death metal that has atmosphere and rules, takes you on a journey |
9 | | At the Gates The Red in the Sky Is Ours
sputnik wasnt ready to hear it 10 years ago and opted for slaughter of the chode. this is an album i didnt really get into until last year just because i didnt give a shit about this band. early ATG has vibes, atmosphere, riffs, melody, very unique |
10 | | Skyclad A Burnt Offering for the Bone Idol
excellent cheesy folk metal stuff that rocks, fans of the UK sabbat will dig for obvious reasons. a flagon of ale please. all the new dummy bands should take a gander |
11 | | Gorement The Ending Quest
awesome swedish dm that takes you on a journey through a medieval field or something like that, it may be from sweden but it sounds closer to finland but more melodic. anyone clicking on this list has probably heard this but its always worth a bump |
12 | | Darkthrone Soulside Journey
user valendreth's review sums up why this is an essential listen for these curl up by the fire days. put liquor in your hot chocolate |
13 | | Bathory Hammerheart
a masterpiece that transcends time and space and is one of the only good "viking metal" albums ever. a must for the season of cold muontaintops and cabins and ships and shit. fuck amon amarth |
