10.13.10 | The closest good scene to me is in Athens, GA, which is very vibrant and where the University of Georgia is, which is an alright school. If I were you, I'd try New York or California. |

10.13.10 | haha where's good in canada? i can actually go there (ottawa, guelph, vancouver and london) but im not sure i want to. convince me. |
BigTuna
10.13.10 | if you're into really any type of music I'd say head to the northwest - places like Northern Cali, Portland, and Seattle. Portland and Seattle both have HUGE music scenes. |

10.13.10 | Canadians have free health care and a low crime rate. Americans have a surplus of bums and douches.
I'm proud to be a Californian. |

10.13.10 | Cause California is a completely different country. Oh, and you better be voting for prop 19. |

10.13.10 | Canada sucks in terms of sheer amount of groups and musical diversity, sure you've got great cities like Montreal but then you've got hundreds and hundreds of miles of nothing.
In New England, where I'm located, the primary musical focus is hardcore/metal/punk and to a lesser extent hip-hop. Here in Rhode Island we've got a pretty good scene, some great local ska bands around Newport, some excellent death metal and post-hardcore groups in Providence as well as a small but thriving punk scene led by the legendary anarcho band Dropdead who've basically made up the scene in Prov. Places to check out in Prov would be Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel and The Hell Room (awesome venue for metal/punk). Also in Pawtucket this place The Met just re-opened and have been booking shitloads of major and indie acts, lots of great groups and artists coming through there.
Also, Boston. Best damn metal/punk town in the US. |

10.13.10 | Wow, thanks, man, very useful. I can go to Providence in New England, am yet to check their website out. Sounds like a cool place though. Cheers |

10.13.10 | Are there any schools near Portland you could go to? Because seriously almost every single tour makes a stop there, and Seattle/Northern Cali are close by. Seattle's has pretty much every scene imaginable, and Portland is heavy on the indie/electronic/ambient artists. |

10.13.10 | Reed College, but apparently it has a very, very high level of achievement and without putting myself down too much I don't know if that's right for me. I could go to the Uni of Oregon in Eugene...some girl was raving about there earlier |
BigTuna
10.13.10 | yeah I've heard good things about the University of Oregon...don't know how its history program is though. I'm actually from Michigan, where we have an okay music scene (Detroit for a ton of hip-hop obviously, Chicago close by, some punk/hardcore in Grand Rapids), but I have a couple friends in Portland and am constantly jealous of all the shows they get to see. |

10.13.10 | I'm actually gutted I can't go anywhere near Chicago (Bears' fan) I have heard great things about its music scene. I'm researching all the history programs as we speak - although I'm not limited to History I could do something really abstract as long as it is still 'academic' i.e. no Introduction to Scuba Diving unfortunately. I shit you not, the scumbags down the road from us at Essex can take a module in 'David Beckham Studies' |

10.13.10 | Maths are awesome... so area few others from your area.
I'm in Baltimore, music scene here is nice I guess, especially if you're into quality post-hardcore. The big advantage of Baltimore though is that it has its own quality stuff, but Philly and DC are also in very close vicinity, makes for an awesome trifecta. |

10.13.10 | Boston has some good schools, and damn near every band plays up there. I have some friends going to Northeastern University there. |
