| Top Ten Albums Of 2011 (so Far) | 10 | | Lady GaGa Born This Way
She annoys the hell outta me as a person, but I'm a fan of GaGa's music. However, with all of the hype, Born This Way should've topped this list. It's still good, but nowhere near as good as it could've and should've been. Fav Tracks: Born This Way, Judas, The Edge Of Glory. | 9 | | Panda Bear Tomboy
Doesn't top the damn-near perfect Person Pitch, but it's still pretty amazing. My faith in Animal Collective and its off-shoots remains firm... Fav Tracks: You Can Count On Me, Tomboy, Slow Motion, Surfer's Hymn, Drone | 8 | | Radiohead The King Of Limbs
And as my faith in Animal Collective is being reassured, so has my faith in the never-failing genius of Radiohead, not exactly their best (certainly their shortest), but it's head and shoulders above most music today and all of the imitators. Fav Tracks: Bloom, Morning Mr Magpie, Little By Little, Lotus Flower, Give Up The Ghost | 7 | | Wu Lyf Go Tell Fire To The Mountain
I still need to give the album a helluva lot more listens, after three full listens, this album continues to sound better and better and better. Fav Tracks: L Y F, Cave Song, Summas Bliss, We Bros | 6 | | Lykke Li Wounded Rhymes
So far Lykke Li seems like Sweden's answer to all the people that unfairly dismiss it as the country that is responsible for ABBA (which isn't a bad thing at all). Fav Tracks: Youth Knows No Pain, I Follow Rivers, Love Out Of Lust, Rich Kids Blues, I Know Places | 5 | | Foo Fighters Wasting Light
They've never made a shitty album, yet they never made a kickass record. It's been mostly great or average records, until now. Wasting Light is proof that rock and roll is still alive and can kick ass and take names. Fav Tracks: Bridge Burning, Rope, These Days, Back & Forth, A Matter Of Time, Walk | 4 | | Tyler, The Creator Goblin
Saw the Yonkers music video, freaked the fuck out, then got all the OFWGKTA mixtapes, and all I could think about was stabbing Bruno Mars in his goddamn esophagus. The torch has been passed, THANK GOD. Fav Tracks: Goblin, Yonkers, Radicals, Transylvania, Tron Cat, Sandwitches | 3 | | Gang Gang Dance Eye Contact
The discovery for me of 2011 has to be Gang Gang Dance. I'm kicking myself for not having gotten in to them earlier, but at least I was able to hear the weirdness that is Eye Contact first. Fav Tracks: Glass Jar, Adult Goth, Chinese High, Mindkilla, Sacer, Thru And Thru | 2 | | Bon Iver Bon Iver, Bon Iver
It may feel like it ends a little too quickly, but Bon Iver's follow-up to For Emma, Forever Ago proves Justin Vernon can do no wrong. Fav Tracks: Perth, Minnesota, WI, Holocene, Wash., Calgary | 1 | | Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues
The band behind the best album of 2008 returns to set the bar for the best of 2011 with Helplessness Blues. Fav Tracks: Montezuma, Bedouin Dresses, Battery Kinzie, Helplessness Blues, Lorelai, Someone You'd Admire | |

07.18.11 | i was gonna do like a top 25 or 20 albums so far, but i felt i hadn't listened to enough to judge fairly. At the end of the year I'll probably expand this list and knock off one or two (probably the lady gaga) and add some more (probably James Blake and the new Washed Out record or something) . Definitely don't think the Foo Fighters new record was overrated, but that's just me. The Tyler, The Creator record has been getting a lot of strong opinions both negative and postive, and I can understand the negative opinions, but I think it's something new in rap, not necessarily inventive, but more innovative than some of the crap that's been coming out recently (Looking at you, Waka, Gucci, and Boosie) |
