3 Days, 3 Shows

a good weekend of live music
The Dream Is Over

Friday. Free show as part of Supercrawl, a really cool annual arts & music festival in Hamilton, Ontario where downtown streets are blocked off for a weekend of live music around the city. Food trucks, beer tents, all kinds of people, always a good time. PUP put on a really good show. (currently one of the best bands going in the genre right now for my money, check out both of their albums if you haven't).
2John K. Samson
Winter Wheat

Saturday, also part of Supercrawl. John K Samson is one of my absolute favourite songwriters so seeing him play a free outdoor concert 10 minutes from where I live is about as good as it gets for me. He played a great set of Weakerthans classics (Plea from a Cat Named Virtute, Aside, Pamphleteer, One Great City!, Reconstruction Site) and solo numbers from Provincial and Winter Wheat. There was a moment during 'Plea', where a handful of people attending the next door banquet hall (the stage was on a street literally right beside it) were outside for a smoke, and they were dancing, and something about the formal wedding attire, the late-summer evening weather, the beauty of the song and the fact that they almost positively didn't know the song, had an oddly profound effect on me. Another memorable moment during the set was John expressing his fondness for the sounds of skateboarding and dedicating 'Fellow Traveller' to a group of nearby skaters. All in all, a very nice evening.
3The Smith Street Band
More Scared of You Than You Are of Me

This one's tonight in Toronto. 3rd time seeing the Melbourne boys and they always put on a great show. Really looking forward to this one. Not exactly looking forward to waking up at 6am Monday though.
