Matty's Top 100 Records of the Year! #50-26

The journey continues into greatness!
25Watain
The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain

#50 - Watain being Watain
24Monuments (UK)
In Stasis

#49 - The best thing this band has ever done was emply Andy Ciszek as their vocalist, man what range and what melody choices. The instrumental aspect of this band continues to impress but man those vocals really drive this thing.
23The Mountain Goats
Bleed Out

#48 - A bit more rock than I expect out of a Mountain Goats album, but I'll take it. A really great compilation of tunes with some more edge.
22Noah Cyrus
The Hardest Part

#47 - What a lovely voice and what a strong album opener. This record ebbs and flows with a variety of styles and approaches to pop and country music. Love Noah's delivery and the lyrics are very personal and endearing.
21Lupe Fiasco
Drill Music in Zion

#46 - A great year for hip hop continues with this thoroughly engaging and indulgent record. Love the flows and rhythms, everything feels right about this album!
20Queensryche
Digital Noise Alliance

#45 - Queensryche continue to release quality records with Todd at the forefront, this one featuring a bit more of the proggy elements present in their heyday in the late 80's.
19Sudan Archives
Natural Brown Prom Queen

#44 - Poignant, poised and passionate. Love the vocals, love the lyrics, love the variety.
18Cabal (DK)
Magno Interitus

#43 - If you like chunk and breakdowns, I have the perfect record for you...
17Billy Woods
Church

#42 - My preferred record of Billy's that dropped this year. I really like the lyrics more on this one than Aethiopes and the flows and beats feel more dynamic and thicker.
16Slowbleed
The Blazing Sun, A Fiery Dawn

#41 - A furious rage filled record. Short, sweet and to the point, wastes no time being of the best heavy records of the year!
15Envy of None
Envy of None

#40 - Not Rush but I friggin' dig it. The vocals are enchanting and lovely, the electronic alternative rock vibes are a mood and completely enjoyable!
14Weyes Blood
And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow

#39 - Sweet, sultry and smooth. Natalie brings out another great crop of songs, the choral chants are gorgeous, the swells and builds of layered instrumentals are beautiful. Wonderful record!
13Tallah
The Generation of Danger

#38 - Wasn't a massive fan of their debut but this one smacks. The vocalist is rage incarnate, tons of variety, lots of nu-metal riffs with metalcore breakdowns. Every song is more chaotic than the previous.
12Kikagaku Moyo
Kumoyo Island

#37 - Strange, eclectic, full of jamming tunes with psychedelic flairs. Kind of like a japanese KG and the Lizard Wizard. I'm here for it!
11Avantdale Bowling Club
TREES

#36 - I like the weed too but not as much as this guy. I do love his album, however!
10Spite
Dedication to Flesh

#35 - What RIFFS! The vocals are insane, the speed and precision are immense and calculated. What a great band that keeps getting better!
9Imperial Circus Dead Decadence
MOGARI - Shi E Fukeru Omoi Wa Rikujoku Sura Kurai

#34 - I'm not sure what this is but I adore it.
8Rammstein
Zeit

#33 - The German boys are back with a slow-burner rather than a barn burner and unfolds rather well. Takes a few listens to really appreciate the nuance but easily one of their best records to date.
7Cave In
Heavy Pendulum

#32 - A new look from a band I wasn't sure I would ever hear new music from. Love the stoner/stadium rock vibes, some of their strongest material since the early 2000's.
6Kendrick Lamar
Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers

#31 - Hip hop's golden boy back again with perhaps one final hooray. Love the production, love the features and just love the variety of the stories told and the messaging.
5Lorna Shore
Pain Remains

#30 - Pig noises, big slams, real fast guitars, yeah this is Lorna Shore.
4Orville Peck
Bronco

#29 - Man what a voice, the croons of Mr. Peck are undeniable and full of soul. The lyrics are amazing and meaningful, the songs are emotional and impactful. Awesome album!
3Metric
Formentera

#28 - Eclectic, outlandish and chock full of awesome tunes. Love the vocals and lyrics, love the variety and dynamics along with the clear production.
2Kreator
Hate Über Alles

#27 - The masters, the legends, the unbeatable thrash boys from Germany come back with more quality jams. A bit more melodic yet still heavy and energetic.
1Enterprise Earth
The Chosen

#26 - One of the brightest and boldest deathcore bands in the scene. While this is the last to feature founding vocalist Dan Watson, this proves to be one hell of a swan song with insane instrumentals, gutturals and even hints of prog elements.
