|||VNNY'S MARCH 2023|||
The year is off with a good start, but it just feels like music is dying. Also, I'm going to Puerto Rico at the end of the month, it's going to a fun Spring Break.
If you have recs, fire away! |
1 | | Metallica 72 Seasons
If Darkness Had A Son (single)
3.7/5
The riff is so fun and catchy, I love it when the song goes lower and lower. But what a surprise, we got a shitty solo. Album sounds...promising I guess. Idk, that second single wasn't doing it for me. |
2 | | Fire-Toolz I am upset because I see something that is not the
It Is Happening Again (Thank You, Council Of Saturn!) (single)
3.9/5
What a jam, this is like a second-grade LSD trip. Mixing is a bit weird, but acceptable. |
3 | | Mattachine/Mikau Eject Modernity, Erase Tradition
EP
4/5
A very delightful hardcore split with an electronic treat at the end. Mattachine was a bit average for me, but their music is an escape for people in the LGBT community so I'll give them that. Mikau sounds like the lead singer from The Callous Daoboys, is that the same dude? |
4 | | moreru l0V3L3$$R0BxT
EP
2.2/5
This Japanese electronic screamo had a certain charm in their music, but I can't enjoy much since it's a lot of fuzzy noises. But not too shabby. |
5 | | Candy Heaven Is Here
Artist: The John Candy
Song: They Know. We Know
3.9/5
Another banger with reaction channels in the music video. As a big fan of metalbirb, I was delighted to see him on there and noticing. |
6 | | Kingdom of Giants Passenger
Wasted Space (single)
4.1/5
The song may seem like an average metalcore song, but the melodies and the singers flow in the song makes it worth it. Also, the breakdown goes heavy af. |
7 | | Macroblank デスウィッシュ
Album
4.3/5
A little bit more lofi than vaporwave, but with the certain textures and instruments in the songs, it's another fantastic vaporware album to dig. |
8 | | Enslaved Heimdal
Album
4/5
This has great elements of atmosphere, prog, and black metal mixed together to create a dark but groovy landscape of Gojira influence. |
9 | | Electric Callboy TEKKNO
Artist: Samurai Pizza Cats
Song: Pizza Homicide feat. Nico Sallach from Electric Callboy
3.6/5
No, not the show! The BAND! Never heard of these guys, but they have the same sound, attitude, and gimmick as Eski-Electric Callboy. And oh, what do ya know, Nico from the band is in it as well. Chorus is the only weak thing in this song, so it's a solid pizza pie with a couple of olives on it. |
10 | | Real Friends There's Nothing Worse Than Too Late
EP
3.8/5
Fuck it, I love it! Almost all of the songs are straight bangers and it holds their pace very well. The new dude sounds basic, but that's fine. Oh yeah, the lyrics and formula are generic as well, so keep that in mind as well. |
11 | | JYOCHO As the Gods Say
EP
4.3/5
Trust me when I say you need to listen to this. The heavens speak in here, and they say."Make this EP a longer version of an anime outro" |
12 | | Various Artists Nobody Here: Eccos of The Past
Compilation
4.2/5
Pretty good collection of vaporwave, jungle, and future funk. Only complaint was it kept me up at night, but that's a me issue that I'm gonna put on the album. |
13 | | KILLSTREAK Janus
Artist: Killstreak (CLEV)
Song: Nicole Is Dead
3.5/5
This band reminds me of commentary YouTubers that play clips of COD in the background while talking about some cringe middle age karen arguing about a sushi shop not having enough rice in their California rolls and gets arrested for public nudity.
The breakdown is nasty, the rest is alright. |
14 | | Hundred Reasons Glorious Sunset
Album
3.6/5
Now I have heard of Hundred Reasons before, but this is the first album I've fully listened to by them. With their return, I had a feeling they lost their mojo for years. But this is a perfectly solid LP with fun, somewhat linear, At The Drive-In style songs. It's like the normal 2000s alt-rock comeback album that doesn't suck pretty much. |
15 | | Transgressive Extreme Transgression
Album
3.2/5
With the rise of LGBTQ metal artists, I haven't heard of a thrash one before...until now. Not many of the songs stuck with me, they weren't mid though, but a few have crushing riffs, Unearth-style melodies, and pissed lyrics that speak about oppression towards people of pride. |
16 | | .gif from god Digital Red
EP
2.7/5
I feel this needs a higher rating, although it is fun to give mediocre EPs a 2.5 |
17 | | Veil of Maya [M]other
Red Fur (single)
3.7/5
One of the better singles from an upcoming album (finally). It has cleans in this, but they aren't Matriach material. I expect this to get a 2.9 pretty soon. |
18 | | Periphery Periphery V: Djent Is Not a Genre
Album
4.8/5
This is so close to a 5, I'm not kidding. Never have I loved a Periphery album more than Select Diffuclity (I haven't heard all of the s/t or This Time, It's Personal albums), until now. Every song is fantastic with emotions ranging from pissed, happy, dillinger escape plan, and sad. This could possibly be my AOTY |
19 | | Lorna Shore Pain Remains
Artist: Project: Vengeance
Song: Cut Bleed Repeat
4/5
Initially the Big Six, five deathcore vocalists have teamed up to give one of the most hyped metal projects of the year. We have Taylor Barber from Left to Suffer, Fonz...oh what, Darius Tehrani from Spite, Tyler Shelton from Traitors, Joe Badolato Dickie Allen from Infant Annihilator (and Scumfuck), and last (but certainly not the least), Will Ramos from Lorna Shore. Wow, what a way to buy your audience in. The best part is the dude from Attila is gone (well maybe not, but WE GOT DARIUS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!). The song is a certified hood classic, go listen to it. |
20 | | Enter Shikari A Kiss for the Whole World
Bloodshot (single)
3.8/5
Damn, that chorus hits in a huge way. The song has many electronic elements throughout the track (which is too be expected) and doesn't do anything too crazy. Other than that, it's a great song. |
21 | | Haken Fauna
4.7/5
Fancy as that monke |
22 | | Veil of Maya [M]other |
23 | | Red Vox Afterthoughts
Album
3.3/5
You might know the dude Vinesauce, the funny dude that says "GRANDDAD" and "SPEEEEEEENNNN". His energy is very different on his album, even the band, taking influences like Led Zeppelin (Lots of Led Zeppelin) in his psychedelic indie rock passion project. 3 is a good rating, I was expecting more Ghostbusters in this (see Vargskelethor's Super ghostbuster's album) |
24 | | Shame (UK) Food For Worms
Album
3.4/5
Nice indie rock with...PUP vocals? |
25 | | Casey Great Grief / Atone
Double single EP
4.2/5
Damn I've been sleeping on them, I need to wake my ass up and get out of bed. I ever skipped one of their albums. |
26 | | xWeaponx/World Of Pleasure Split
Split EP
4.2/5
Wait until World of Pleasure hits you with that "I am vegan in spite of you" line. That shit made me puke out my insides because there was meat inside of me.
^This is unhealthy and I suggest you do not do the same |
27 | | Glass Casket Glass Casket
Give Them Up
4.4/5
Two dudes from BTBAM were in this band before BTBAM. This is their first material in 17 years, so I got two albums to jam to before this. The single is great, but I need to get to the Metal Injection website to listen to it. They are very strange people. |
28 | | Dwellings Lavender Town
Devices (single)
4.8/5
Fuuuuuuuuck that was hot! The songs flow and the dudes vocals goes together in the most beautiful way ever. Now I'm excited for a new album |
29 | | fromjoy it lingers
seraph feat. iRis.EXE (single)
3.7/5
They got vaporwave in it, so I'm good with the sound. Iris carries this track honestly |
30 | | Atreyu Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses
Watch Me Burn (single)
0/5
no |
31 | | Good Kid Good Kid
Mimi's Delivery Service (single)
4.8/5
It has everything that I love in the band but they are doing that Memphis May Fire thing where they keep releasing several singles before their "album"(?) comes out |
32 | | From Ashes To New Day One
Hate Me Too (single)
0/5
Don't worry, I hate you too |
33 | | Berried Alive Bearies Alive
I LOVE A ROBOT (single)
1/5
They had a good thing going with the ISMFOF collab, but this you can skip it's not worth it |
34 | | Resolve Between Me and the Machine
Death Awaits (single)
4.3/5
Fun riffs, great chorus, epic vocals, it's all here. The band is also French, MAMA MIA! |
