01.13.25 | Was listening to Heart of the Ages and reminiscing |
swallowtales
01.13.25 | ulver, agalloch, that kinda folk tinged stuff was what grabbed me first, and stuff like burzum which is inevitable to come across when you are new to the genre. |
Dedes
01.13.25 | The Satanist, Sunbather, Storm of the Lights Bane I believe in exactly that order.
Then it was Agalloch time. |
Egarran
01.13.25 | Ancient - The Cainian Chronicles taught me that BM could be good.
I read a review that compared it to King Diamond, which doesn't make a lot of sense (I guess the point was th BM could be theatrical and not only grim and tr00), but it made me check it out and I was hooked.
From there it was a standard progression involving CoF, Dimmu, Emperor, Mayhem etc.
My first real BM obsession was Limbonic Art. |
Hawks
01.13.25 | Cradle, Dimmu, Emperor, Ulver, Borknagar, Gorgoroth, Mayhem, Satyricon, etc.
All of the classic Norwegian bands were my introduction plus Cradle for the most part lol. |
BallsToTheWall
01.13.25 | 2 is mad underrated. Never heard 6, will have to sample that. |
BallsToTheWall
01.13.25 | The Slavic scene like Drudkh, Nokturnal Mortum, Forest and Walknut definitely my favorite but Enslaved was my #1. |

01.14.25 | Was a bit different att as there was no internet damn that's old so it was just word of mouth or catching bits of info here and there on bands to check. So didn't hear Ulver till later or Agalloch which wasn't well known.
Eg I have to check Ancient properly. They were thereabouts as well as Samael and Marduk but chose to explore other bands. But we did both go down the Limbonic Art rabbit hole I was obsessed with them too. I bought the In Abhorrence Dementia cd around 97-98 and thought is this what it's come to haha.
Hawks cradle was so important to me too. After Dusk the buzz was for Dimmu and Enthrone Darkness Triumphant so got that cd and was obsessed with that for a long while. Then Emperor etc..
Didn't catch the slavic scene Balls and only rly gave Enslaved a go at Vertebrae. But that was so far removed from their 90's bm it's like a different band |
