05.05.21 | Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience (contemporary pop)
Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour (contemporary country)
Belong - October Language (drone)
|
Bedex
05.05.21 | 'Belong - October Language' excellent pick |
wham49
05.05.21 | public enemy/takes a nation of millions to hold us back (hip-hop)
Cannibal corpse/butchered at birth (death metal) |
RadioSuicide
05.05.21 | @Bedex know of anything similar? i wouldn't say I dislike drone at all, actually, I just find it very hard to find stuff within the genre I can sink my teeth into. i dig Stars of the Lid and The Dead Texan as well, ambient drone-y stuff feels so great when it's done right |
DavidYowi
05.05.21 | Meshuggah - Chaosphere (djent) |
wham49
05.05.21 | 1 is not a jam band |
Bedex
05.05.21 | @Radio I'm in the same boat it's not easy to find drone with good substance! Not quite similar but recs that come to mind would be
Internazionale - Elegy for the Victors
Sundrugs - Low
Celer - Panoramic Dreams Bathed in Seldomness
or perhaps Xiexie instead of that one
Plus it's more soft ambient than it is drone, but A Winged Victory for the Sullen is a must have if you dig Stars of the Lid if you haven't jammed them yet! |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.05.21 | October Language is a drone album? I guess so hmm
You'll probably enjoy Fennesz if you stan that album. And Dntel. And maybe Aoki Takamasa. Lotta ambient/glitch out there |
JohnnyoftheWell
05.05.21 | Oh and Gridlock |

05.05.21 | "1 is not a jam band." Then what would you call those 10-15-minute versions of their songs they do live? Mind you, I'm not trying to insult you, wham49, but I'm interested in what you think DMB is, as opposed to a jam band. |
RadioSuicide
05.05.21 | thanks a ton guys, excite 2 check
also Bedex, I've become quite the fan of Dustin O'Halloran in general over the past year and have heard most of his solo and collab work at this point. only Winged Victory I haven't heard yet is The Undivided Five and the Atomos EP, and I might just get on those after i go through your guys' recs while I'm in the mood. |
wham49
05.05.21 | their live shows are reproductions and rehearsed solo's I see a jam band is somebody who like jazz is a whole band soloing at the same time leaving space here and there for somebody to jump in, having a long rehearsed song with solo's that are reproduced night after night can be good like Genesis, or Yes, but I would not call them jam band
DMB is more like soft rock, smooth jazz or IDK what others they would fall into
but I see jam bands as more Allman bros, widespread panic, phish or the Grateful Dead, as the jam changing from night to night, maybe I am wrong about DMB, I only saw them once a long time ago, and I could have just listened to the album and saved the money, I do like their studio output though |
Bedex
05.05.21 | I actually jammed The Undivided Five just yesterday and I really liked it! Felt like the AWFTS s/t but more subdued and backgroundey. If you like his/their other work you'll like it I'm sure :] Atomos is pretty nice too |

05.05.21 | Sad that the one punk album you like is pop punk
|
JKing92
05.05.21 | Eh, better than nothing. 😉
In all seriousness, punk is just a blind spot of mine in every way. Not my thing. |
CaliggyJack
05.05.21 | I like all genres :( |
JKing92
05.05.21 | Good for you, then! I shall not judge you for our difference in opinion there. |

05.05.21 | Sad that the one punk album you like is pop punk [2]
Maybe this is why you don’t like punk? Maybe you haven’t heard good punk yet or something only watered down bullshitttt |
JKing92
05.05.21 | All I can really say is that it's just not my thing. I'm more into the poppy, sugary sound of Green Day, which might be why I love them and not, say, Fugazi or the Sex Pistols. Neither of us are right or wrong, we just have different perspectives.
Also a sidenote: what qualifies as "good punk" is in the eye of the beholder. There are people out there who think Sum 41 and Blink-182 are awesome, and that the Ramones and the Clash suck, and plenty of people vice versa. Again, not right or wrong, just different viewpoints (not that I'm a fan of any of these groups). |
Cygnatti
05.05.21 | there's like 2 or 3 good prog metal albums so one of dems |

all 4 of them suck tbh fr fr |
JKing92
05.05.21 | Well, that's a matter of opinion. Mind you, I happen to very much agree on Sum 41, the Ramones, and the Clash sucking (Blink I don't care for, but I don't dislike them as thoroughly as the aforementioned trio), but ultimately whether or not these bands are truly "good" or "bad" is a matter of opinion. |

05.05.21 | i'm sure i like SOME black metal... at some point. |
Senetrix666
05.05.21 | Jawbreaker - 24 hour revenge therapy (pop punk) |
JKing92
05.05.21 | Black metal is actually one of the few genres in which I have found virtually nothing I enjoy. Perhaps it comes from me being more of a pop listener at heart. |
OSEL
05.05.21 | Failure - Fantastic Planet, I really love this album but generally dislike anything else that resembles grunge.
Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I, ditto for this kind of collegiate "indie" shit but gawd this album is good |
budgie
05.05.21 | i dont really love hip hop, but amerikkka's most wanted is one of my favorite albums ever |
