onionbubs 01.05.21	man what you hear on ohms is just what diamond eyes sounds like to me except i still like that one a decent bit. the song progressions on ohms are way more interesting than theyve been post wrist and the guitarwork is basically just if the bottom string worship on diamond eyes was signficantly more rhythmically interesting, plus the choruses arent like half of the whole fucking song the way de repeats the shit out of all of its parts

MxL0 01.06.21	I mean Ohms is really repetitive. The songs seem to blend at certain points and lack flavor. A lot of the hooks and general sound on the album aren't all that different from what they've already done. After the initial verse and chorus the songs don't really seem to progress or add anything that sticks out, rather repeat what was already established in the song. I often feel like I've listened to the whole song after the first verse and chorus, which is a problem I have with nearly all their albums. Sometimes on Ohms there'd be a decently cool guitar part, but then they'd immediately go back to a very familiar sounding chorus and wash rinse repeat. The choruses often ruin the songs because of that. In fact, many of the choruses on here sound alike, and aren't infectious or atmospheric enough to justify it. I can't tell you how often there'd be some sort of long buildup just to lead into yet another same-y sounding chorus or basic riff. It makes it very frustrating to listen to. Oh and that was my attempt at a joke lol. I'm not a comedian. As for Diamond Eyes, what I was trying to say is certain parts of certain songs felt a little flat/could've been a bit stronger if the melody was tweaked a bit. I'm not a music theory guy so I can't really explain it too well. You're welcome to think this is just me tryharding or trying to be edgy or whatever but these are 100% my thoughts. I've replayed WP dozens of times but it just doesn't click with me (though my opinion of it has gotten slightly better since my first listen). I have yet to find a Deftones album where I like every song. I love good atmosphere, and I love certain kinds of metal, but with Deftones a lot of times they fuse it 50/50, resulting in a sound where neither element is very pronounced, resulting in a middling experience for me. All in all, maybe they just aren't for me.
