To quote Anthony fantano, “my beautiful dark fantasy is mid”. Also to quote Anthony fantano, “I hate poor people I make more money than you”. First I would like to preface this review by saying Anthony Fantano is a fucking idiot. He’s wrong 9 times out of 10 and he’s basically the modern day pitchfork in terms of being an embarrassing coffee stain on the music community. Sorry Anthony but I don’t make the rules. With that said one of the biggest things he has gotten shit for online was giving MBDTF a 6. The amount of white 15 year old 110 pound dorks that cyberbullied him online was honestly hilarious. The crazy thing though, fantano was right this album is a 6. AND IM A KANYE FAN AND I THINK FANTANO IS AN IDIOT. So if anything my ability to suppress my inherit bias to tell the objective facts is yet another example of how unbiased and objectively factual I am. I cant give melon too much credit though. Even when fantano is right he’s still wrong because his reasons for giving MBDTF a 6 were completely incorrect he basically only got the score right I think he copied me (again). Allow me, legendary featured music critic Jeffery j. bigglestein to unveil the REAL and UNCENSORED truth about My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

11.23.20 | There is a misconception that this album is perfect. And as a kanye fan I wish that this was true, but the opener Dark Fantasy has to be Kanye’s most overrated song. Here you have 3 half baked tracks kinda mismashed into a singular forced epic and it fails spectacularly. This track does not flow well at well. The Nikki Minaj intro sucks and is stupid. I cant believe multiple people approved that prententious ass garbage. I know Kanye’s whole gimmick is being a pretentious egotistical asshole but the whole reason why it works is because he’s talented. Nikki Minaj is hit or miss and here she just comes across like a dork. I could not think of a worse way to open a “statement” album. This horrible intro combined with the boring and tepid “Gourgous” that follows this will trick listeners into thinking this album is gonna be garbage. And as a legendary music critic my time is valuable. Therefore i only listen to the first 3 tracks of an album. if the first three tracks aren’t good I turn off the album and give it a bad rating. So thank god that the third track her was “power” which is a top 5 ye track. This track is fucking awesome it reminds me of smoking weed under the bleachers at high school football games. Listeners strong enough to suffer through the first two tracks will be rewarded here. Kanye redeems himself huge with a string of well connected, carefully produced, and emotionally compelling tracks between Power, All of the Lights, and Monster. Devil in a New Dress and Runaway are also classics. Unfortunately ye doesn’t know to stop when he’s ahead. The last four tracks are all barely mid and are a wet blanket to finish out the album. Also the Jay Z’s part in So Appalled is unsurprisingly shit goes to show how overrated jay z is. “One hand in the air if you don’t really care” caught me with my hand fucking up because I didn’t give a shit about that song. It’s too bad this album starts and ends weak because the middle third of this record is fantastic.

My beautiful dark fantasy is the musical equivalent of a big mac. I know I make a lot of comparisons to music and mcdonalds but bear with me sometimes I get hungry when I write. The buns (beginning and end) are shit but the meat is good hot take. You can have a burger without the buns but you cant have a burger without the patty. “Can you get much higher” I guess be high to think the opener isn’t garbage. If I was kanye I would have just cut the first two and last four tracks. Then maybe this album would actually be a 5 and the middle schoolers of /r/hiphopheads would actually be right about something for once. Also doesn’t help that the album after this would literally be Kanye’s magnum opus. It’s been 10 years since MBDTF and it’s aged decently but it’s not a 5 like the 30 iq simpletons on reddit and the neckbeards in fantanos comment section think it is. No album can be a 5 and have that nikki minaj skit those two things are mutually exclusive. Anthony Fantano eat your heart out. 3/5.
