| 8 Modern Dubstep Tunes
yes, dubstep is alive and well. below you will find 8 tunes ranging from str8forward wubby tingz to more experimental affairs. this one's for you dev. shouts to evok for already having 1/4 of these in the database. not ranked | 1 | | Peaky Beats Cats & Lobsters
Artist based out of: LEEDS, UK
Label based out of: LONDON, UK
Released: December 2021
Track selected: “Weapon”
Peaky Beats is well-established in the bumpy UKG scene at this point, and has recently been throwing more dubstep-influenced tunes into his releases. His touch on the old skool ragga and dub sounds that got dubstep on the map is done incredibly well. This track has even got esoteric vocal monologue samples. Fans of the classic sound that caught American youngster's attention in '08 / '09 (think Widdler, Skream) will dig this tune. The rest of the tracks on this EP are ace too, but more on a bass-heavy UKG tip.

Artist based out of: LYON, FRANCE
Label based out of: LONDON, UK
Released: April 2021
Track selected: “Dark Guru”
Visages delivers the effing goods on Dark Guru EP. Fans of D'n'B will enjoy the last three tracks on this release, but for the purposes of this list, I'm highlighting the title-track. No other words for this one but MASSIVE. Get to rockin.

Artist based out of: WASHINGTON, D.C., USA & BRISTOL, UK
Label based out of: WASHINGTON, DC., USA
Released: November 2020
Track selected: “Shapes”
A forward-thinking collab from Martyn and Om-Unit. Skippy rhythms abound on this release that range from D'n'B to breakbeat, house, and techno. “Shapes” has the clearest dubstep roots, flirting with the increased hats presence of dark garage that the oldskool dubstep scene didn't shed until the dungeon days, but retaining the 140 bpm and bass-work of the classic era, all with an experimental attitude. Highly recommended.

Artist based out of: NEW ZEALAND
Label based out of: LONDON, UK
Released: April 2020
Track selected: “Garbo”
Cheeky, dutty tune this one. Label's output is ridiculous. Don't forget about “Grits” either, for a more float-y, Coki & Benga “Night” style tune.

Artist based out of: SW OF ENGLAND
Label based out of: UK
Released: March 2019
Track selected: “Mahdi”
Evok got me turned on to this label and oh boy, what a label indeed. All three tracks deliver here, but the title track is perhaps the most dynamic. Bassbin tingz.

Artist based out of: NEW DELHI, INDIA
Label based out of: [self-released]
Released: December 2021
Track selected: “Thisbeatexists”
India is pumping out some seriously cool dubstep lately, probably always has been and I just wasn't tuned in, but same as it ever was right? Stain is one of the more prominent names I've noticed, though I'm due for a deeper dive. He does a yearly flush of tunes that didn't make it onto any releases and this is one of the more accessible ones. Check out the Geddi Bop Rejected beat 001 as well.

Artist based out of: BRISTOL, UK & NOTTINGHAM, UK
Label based out of: UK
Released: March 2021
Track selected: “Shallow Waters”
Whew! Nimble but deeeeeeep vibes on “Shallow Waters.” Variety of influences on this EP, from trap music to grime to downtempo. Beautiful stuff.

Artist based out of: DUBLIN, IRELAND
Label based out of: [self-released]
Released: February 2022
Track selected: “Deep Space Dub”
This collection of dubplates is out of this world. Do yourself a favor and tuck in with a set of large cutlery. “Deep Space Dub” is the highlight, paying homage to roots of the genre. Whatchu know 'bout dat reverb?!

02.26.22 | To me, 99% of dubstep released in the last 10 years if not longer feels like a rehash of something that was already done better in 2007. There are definitely exceptions, but it's tough to wade through all the nonsense. I've always loved Martyn's output though. | rellik009
